Aishwarya: There is no Ram or Sita in RAAVAN!

2010 is definitely going to be a watershed year for Aishwarya Rai. She has four big films with reputed filmmakers, all lined up for release.

But one film that is hogging the limelight is RAAVAN and the reasons are multifold. First of all it brings back the real life pair of Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after the super success of GURU, co-incidentally with the same maker. Secondly its director is Mani Ratnam who is revered in the film circle for his craft. Thirdly, it's scintillating music by the Oscar winner A. R. Rahman which has come in for huge appreciation from the critics as well as the paying audience. Moreover, its promos, especially the songs have only pumped up the tempo for this thriller. And last but not the least, the film is looking very fresh and different and the fact that it is based on one of India's most sacred epics, Ramayana, makes the film all the more exciting and universally appealing.

However, this has also proved to be detrimental with RAAVAN facing protests from certain groups hell-bent on boycotting the film. But according to lead actors Aishwarya and Abhishek the film is a very contemporary one and all the characters are modern. Abhishek Bachchan is essaying the title role of RAAVAN but actually his on screen name is Beera and Raavan is only his nickname. Aishwarya discloses in a recent interview that she does not play Sita in the film; her role is that of Ragini a modern, independent woman, strong minded woman who teaches classical dancing to children. And there is no character called Ram in the film as well.

Well, that sounds interesting and we are waiting excitedly for the film to release without any hitch all over on 18th June.
