Yusuf did not play for Baroda in the ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Twenty20 Tournament on Sunday against Mumbai. Fans at the ground in Mumbai were surprised not to seen Yusuf playing on that day. However, it was later revealed that he had gone to Baroda for his engagement ceremony.
On Tuesday, Yusuf and Irfan Pathan both played for Baroada as they defeated Harbhajan Singh-led Punjab by eight runs to lift the Trophy.
A Baroda team member confirmed that Pathan left Mumbai on Friday for his engagement at Nadiad which is 55 kilometers from Vadodara.
"Pathan left Mumbai on Friday as his engagement was at Nadiad, 55 kilometres from Vadodara," a team source said on Sunday.
"I can confirm that I got engaged some time back. But as far as playing the semi-final against Delhi is concerned, I will be there before the match starts. I will land in Mumbai tomorrow morning and will go to the ground immediately," Yusuf told MiD DAY from Baroda.
He further stated that the ceremony was just a family get-together that happened on Saturday.
Afreen from Mumbai, who got engaged to Yusuf Pathan on Saturday is practising physiotheraphy at Vadodara. Since both the families were keen to finish the engagement formalities at the earliest, in order to finalise the engagement for younger brother Irfan.
"It won't be a surprise if both Yusuf and Irfan get married on the same day," the source said.
