Manisha Koirala has cancer

Manisha Koirala, the Bollywood actress from Nepal who became a sensation in the early 90s with Subhas Ghai’s “Saudagar”, has been diagnosed with cancer. The 42-year-old actress is currently admitted to the Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai. Recently she appeared in Ram Gopal Verma’s “Bhoot Returns”.

According to the hospital spokesperson Krishnakant Dasyam, the actress is undergoing some medical tests and she will remain in the hospital for some time. According to close sources she recently flew to Mumbai from Nepal where she had been having some health problems. Upon her arrival in Mumbai she fell unconscious. In one of her recent tweets she had mentioned about suffering from food poisoning.

While her mother Sushma is already by her side, her father and brother are going to fly down to the city to be with her. She is from an influential family in Nepal. Her grandfather, Bishweshwar Prasad Koirala, was the Prime Minister of Nepal in the 50s and 60s. Her great-uncles Girija Prasad Koirala and Matrika Prasad Koirala were also former prime ministers of the small Himalayan kingdom.

Starting her career from a Nepali film released in 1989, she has worked in Hindi, Malayalam and Tamil movies. Due to her allegedly erratic lifestyle her career began to wane and in the early 2000′s she left the country. In 2004 she returned from New York after completing a diploma in filmmaking. Ever since then she has been an active member of an independent documentary filmmakers’ society.

Her prominent movies include Saudagar (her debut in Hindi movies), 1942: A Love Story, Bombay, Akele Hum Akele Tum and Khamoshi: The Musical.

Tumbring wishes her a speedy recovery.
