Salman Khan to produce 'Dr. Cabbie'

As a producer, Salman Khan seems to be investing in films very unlike the Bollywood masala capers he’s acted in by the dozen.

After his first co-production Chillar Party, a children’s film in 2011, Salman Khan is set to produce a Canadian film titled Dr. Cabbie. The film will tell the story of an unemployed Indian doctor in Canada who takes to driving cabs and hits upon a novel idea of turning his taxi into a mobile clinic. That’s when he comes to be known as Dr. Cabbie.

Salman Khan says in a statement, “Dr. Cabbie is the story of an Indian immigrant and it has an inherent universal appeal.”

The film will be directed by Jean Francois Pouliot and it stars Vinay Virmani (seen in the 2011 movie Breakaway or Speedy Singhs) along with American actress Adrianne Palicki (of G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Chris Diamantopoulos, and Kunal Nayyar (of the sit-com ‘The Big Bang Theory’).

Director Jean-Francois says, “This is a timeless story which is humorous and heart-warming. It blends social issues and the journey to find one’s place in the world”.

The film’s shooting began on Wednesday last week and you can check out the first still from the sets on the next page.
