Shah Rukh Khan returns to shoot on Marine Drive after 23 years

Shah Rukh Khan has been working round-the-clock to finish the shooting of his upcoming Independence Day release. The film is being shot at various spots in the city, and a few days back, one instance got him nostalgic about his early days in the industry.

On Tuesday (January 27), Shah Rukh and the team shot at south Mumbai’s Marine Drive stretch. This was the first time in over two decades that the actor was shooting at the scenic location. A source from the production unit reveals, “During his first film Deewana (1992), Shah Rukh had shot on Marine Drive. And it was only now, after 23 years, that he got a chance to shoot at the same spot, and instantly, the memories came flooding back to him.”

Visibly nostalgic, Shah Rukh spoke to the team about memories of his early years in the film industry. “He talked about his shooting days then, where he would be waiting outside, basking in the sea breeze till the next shot was being prepared for. But this time, there was tight security to ensure that the shooting runs smoothly, and that the gathered crowd does not create chaos. Many fans had got to know that he was shooting there, so after every shot, he was ushered back into the vanity van,” adds the source.

After shooting at Marine Drive for six hours, Shah Rukh apparently wanted to stay back at the spot, but he realised that security concerns might pose a problem for the crew.

When contacted, the film’s director Maneesh Sharma confirmed the news and said, “Shah Rukh was very happy shooting at Marine Drive. Since it was after two decades that he shot at the location, he was reminiscent of his earlier shooting days.”
