No one can argue that we haven’t seen Shahid Afridi master all the strokes on the field, but what a treat it would have been to watch this dashing cricketer set the dance floor on fire in the seventh season of Nach Baliye! Unfortunately, fans are in for a disappointment as the ace cricketer apparently shocked the executives of a Hindi entertainment channel by allegedly backing out in the last minute.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, as soon as he realised that the show’s format involved dancing couples competing for the championship title, Afridi apparently turned down the invitation to participate, stating categorically that he does not want the whole world to see his wife dancing!
Channel executives, on conditions of anonymity, said that the cricketer was keen on a solo act but when he got wind that it would involve his wife participating, he refused the offer saying, “Biwi ko nahin nachana hai. We can all agree that this is a personal choice, but we can't help wondering if there is a lurking sexist behind this decision.
The channel is looking for a replacement and has approached a few other cricketers.
