Shashikala, Vidya Balan named for Maharashtra government awards


Veteran actress Shashikala and Vidya Balan were today named for Maharashtra Government's awards in the memory of late Raj Kapoor. While Shashikala will be given the Raj Kapoor Life Time contribution award, Balan will receive the Raj Kapoor Special Contribution award, Cultural affairs minister Vinod Tawde told reporters at Mantralaya, Mumbai.

The V Shantaram Life Time Achievement Award will be given to veteran cinematographer Suryakant Lavande and the V Shantaram special contribution award will go to actress Sonali Kulkarni, the minister said. Each life time award carries a citation, a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.5 lakh. Each special contribution award carries a citation, a trophy and a cash prize of Rs.3 lakh, Tawde said.

It has been decided to rope in a private TV channel to sponsor the show, which will help the government save the around Rs.1.25 crore expenses it would have incurred on the awards, the minister said.
