Sudhir Mishra's next is"Tera Kya Hoga Johnny "

'Tera Kya Hoga...' not an answer to Slumdog': Sudhir Mishra
Sudhir Mishra's much-delayed project Tera Kya Hoga Johnny will finally hit the screens on 17th December, but the director has brushed aside comparisons with the Oscar-winning sensation Slumdog Millionaire and says his film is an insider's tribute to Mumbai.

"This is an insider making a film. I belong to Mumbai, I live here. So there are a lot of things I take for granted (when it comes to the city and its influence in the movie). And I like Slumdog, but I didn't make Tera Kya Hoga Johnny as an answer to that," Mishra told in an interview.

"However, it could be called an answer too, as some people who saw it in London said so directly," he added.

'Tera Kya Hoga...' not an answer to 'Slumdog': Sudhir Mishra

Tera Kya Hoga Johnny was shown as a work in progress at the London Film Festival and has been awaiting release since 2008.

Negating the Slumdog comparisons, Mishra, however, asserted that the movie is an ode to the maximum city.

"It is the story of hope, ambition and life of an unfortunate 16-year-old boy Johnny, who lives on the streets of Mumbai and sells coffee. The story is about how he pins his hope on another man (Neil Nitin Mukesh) and how it eventually turns out to be a thriller, seen through his eyes and a mysterious character," said the National Award winner.

"It is a story of resilience of all sorts of people who are trying to rewrite the screenplay of their lives. Mumbai is one of the cities in India that offers one a chance to do so and lets one be what one wants to be. It is a tribute to the maximum city," he added.

The fascination of Mishra, co-writer of Bollywood's cult classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaron, with Mumbai is not new. He has earlier explored the city through movies like Dharavi, Is Raat Ki Subah Nahi and Chameli.

"I have a fascination for the city. I adore it and love it. I have an affection for that place. You can smell it in my work. I have always made films that revolve around Mumbai and its spirit," he said.

Set at a time when the city's officialdom is busy turning it into another Shanghai, Tera Kya Hoga Johnny stars debutant Sikandar Agarwal in the lead. Neil, Soha Ali Khan, Karan Nath, Kay Kay Menon and Shahana Goswami have pivotal roles. It also stars filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Aditya Bhattacharya.

So what led to the long delay in its release?

"There were some issues... nothing to do with the film per se but with money, etc. It's all over now," said the director, whose last outing was Khoya Khoya Chand in 2007.

Major chunks of Tera Kya Hoga Johnny were also leaked on YouTube. Asked if it will mar the commercial viability of the venture, Mishra said: "Not at all. It will in fact serve as a good promotional platform for the movie and help it. It will work as a kind of trailer."

"The version that people earlier saw was an older rough cut that went to a film festival as a work in progress. That's it. But it is now a brand new film with brand new music, some additional new footage and some scenes that have been re-shot. It is now an absolutely fresh film," he added.

The new cut of Tera Kya Hoga Johnny will also traverse the festival circuit.

"The real 'Johnny' will now go to film festivals after the release. We want to release it in Mumbai and the rest of India first. The main purpose of the film is to engage the Indian audience and then the real cut will go to festivals post-that," he said.

Mishra doesn't rule out the possibilities of a sequel too.

"Yes, if the script works out, then we will definitely try out a sequel as the ending is such that it can be taken forward," he said.

His future projects include Yeh Saali Zindagi, Dhruv and Hitman.

Neha inspire by Mayawati

Bollywood actress Neha Dhupia says she took inspiration from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati to get her regional dialect right for her role of a female gangster in upcoming comedy Phas Gaye Re Obama.

"As I play a gangster from UP in the film, I had to get that language right and so I observed Mayawati to learn how she speaks. She is the only woman whose dialect, whether she is serious or funny, is extremely monotonous. So I have tried to incorporate this in my character. However, my character is not inspired by her," Neha told.

The actress was in Gurgaon at PVR BluO in Ambience Mall to promote her new film along with co-stars Rajat Kapoor, Sanjay Mishra and director Subhash Kapoor.

The former Miss India has donned the role of a dacoit, Munni Madam, in the film directed by Subhash Kapoor. The film, which is due to release on 3rd December alongside Ashutosh Gowariker's Khelein Hum Jee Jaan Sey, is set against the backdrop of global recession that originated in the US.

Although Neha is the only female lead in the film but the actress admits she is more of a boy than a girl.

"I am not the heroine of the film. I am one of heroes. It is a male part in a female form,' she added.

Kangna Ranaut gets a new tattoo

Kangna Ranaut got inked yet again on the back of her neck last Friday by tattoo
artist Sameer Patange at his Kraayonz Tattoo Studio.

The actress
reveals more about the new inking, "I call this the warrior angel. I got my earlier tat done about a month ago. It was small and basic consisting of just a cross and wings.

This one is bigger and more elaborate. Sameer is excellent at detailing and concealing. He has added angels, wings, a crown and a sword around my earlier tat in such a way that he didn't have to remove it.

I have also designed rose buds on top of the rose handle to make it look more feminine."

She says she always wanted to have a tattoo based around the concept of a sword and angels with wings.

"I have always been a fighter no matter what my circumstances have been and I also feel that angels have protected me. Hence the angels, wings, crown and sword design which I conceived on my own.

The new inking session lasted almost two-and-a-half hours and was very painful. But the pain was worth it as now my dream tattoo is ready.

I don't plan to have any more done now maybe when I get married and have children, I might have their names inked!"

Kangna says she was in two minds on enlarging her original tat. "When I had my first done I wasn't sure how it would look especially if I could carry it off during shootings and given the characters I was playing.

I kept it small as I wanted to check it out.

But then I realised I could always conceal it with make-up or wear outfits that covered my tattoo when I was shooting. I decided to go for a larger, more elaborate tattoo my dream one!"

Ranaut will be next seen on screen in No Problem, an Anees Bazmee film, along with Anil Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt, Sunil Shetty and Akshaye Khanna.
an
Her character in the film is a bimbette who is completely obsessed with her looks and the latest fashion trends.

Toshi Sabri condition critical

Popular singer
Toshi Sabri who met with a road accident at the Nasik-Pune highway is reportedly in a critical condition. He is undergoing treatment in Nashik’s Wockhardt hospital. His condition is said to be crucial.

One of his band member named, Aatik died on the spot and other member suffered minor injuries. The driver of the car is safe but one person’s spinal chord nearly damaged. Aatik hailed from Jaipur and Toshi from Rajasthan. The band was returning after performing at Shirdi. A truck hit their car at the wee hour

Toshi is a well-known singer and he has landed his voice in many films. He shot to fame with the reality show, ‘Star Voice of India’.

Dolly back on the show.

Here is a good news for the TV viewers but bad news for the housemates as the trouble factor of the house is returning to Bigg Boss on public demand. She was kicked out of the house following her ugly spat with Shweta Tiwari and Sameer Soni. Every since the loud and irritating Dolly Bindra was evicted from the house, the TRP of the show went down. Audience no longer enjoyed the show.

Looking at her popularity, the channel has decided to re-enter her in the house through wild card entry.

Confirming the news, a source said, "Dolly Bindra was the lifeline of the show. Ever since she came on the show as the wild card entry, she made life miserable for the contestants, especially Shweta Tiwari. The channel enjoyed an all-time high with her on the show. Despite Pamela Anderson`s presence or Sameer Soni`s return to the show, there has not been much excitement on the show."

The channel is getting a lot of feedback from viewers, urging them to bring Dolly back on the show. However, when dolly was questioned about her return to Bigg Boss, she said, "I can`t comment and I am not aware of anything. Whatever questions you have should be directed to the production house Endemol. All I can say is that I am a person who speaks the truth and will call a spade a spade. If given an opportunity to go back, I will be the same."

Review: Allah Ke Banday

Gore of yore Allah Ke Banday
Direction: Faruk Kabir
Cast: Sharman Joshi, Faruk Kabi
Rating: ** "Asia’s biggest slum” Dharavi, many believe, is not even the largest slum of Mumbai. Vast stretches of shanties called Mankhurd, further north from Dharavi, is much denser; Mira Road and thereabouts in Mumbai’s northwest is as huge, if not huger. Dharavi is still the urban ‘povertariat’s’ favourite slum.

The lower deck of Mumbai, the leading men of this film belong to, is called Bhul-Bhulaiya. Gruesome crimes, kids with country-made and automatic weapons here remain entirely below the press’s radar. The police are conspicuous by their complete non-existence. The filmmakers lead us literally into a dark ‘underworld’. Brazilian City Of God is by now standard textbook for this genre. This one’s no exception.

The gentlemen before us, Vijay (Sharman) and Yakub (Faruk) — Jai and Veeru, joined by the hip — grew up in Bhul-bhulaiya, certain that they would one day lord over the asbestos empire. They find themselves in a bolster home too soon. An early skirmish with a local don lands them there. The two kids still grow up nursing their childhood dreams, in a prison full of minors (and some over-aged inmates).

This is where drugs are a daily trade, and a bald, limping house warden (Naseeruddin Shah; a role played better by his protégé Ankur Vikal in Slumdog Millionaire) buggers the living daylights out of young boys.

At the recent Mumbai international film festival, a film called R, shot entirely in a real Danish prison, picked up a top prize. The director (Michael Noer) made a fair jibe at his audience in the Mumbai screening. “A lot of you may find these prisons to be decent apartments,” he said. He was right.

The “anda cell” (egg cell) here isn’t too bad either. Tandoori chicken is served for dinner; boys are dressed in relatively crisp blue shirts. Our heroes eventually finish their term with well-toned bodies, Man-U and Argentine soccer jerseys to take home. They have Rs 6 lakh collected as savings. They raise an entire private army, procure major arms, place gunmen at their grilled gates. The slum’s self-righteous shikshak (teacher, Atul Kulkarni) plays the conscience. The action is tightly executed; the outcome, terribly dissatisfying.

There is something annoyingly simplistic about gruffly, gutter groups of fictional Nana Sahib, Bala Shetty and Suleiman Patni, etc, when they entirely appear without a political context. That quintessential Mumbai genre (Satya, Vaastav…) demands a serious update now (Maqbool was altogether another mythology).

Stakes are evidently higher. Terrorism has replaced street mafia of the ‘70s. One black Friday of ‘93 supposedly altered the game, its court, and the rules forever. The gangs and their slums are not the same anymore. This would be a minor issue if the picture’s setting wasn’t completely the point itself. It unfortunately is. There is no other story. Well. Too bad.

Salman smash for hosting BB 4

It has been almost two months since ‘Bigg Boss 4′ started on Colors. Since then, the reality show
has been hitting headlines mostly for the wrong reasons. The latest being a case filed against the superstar host Salman Khan.

Interestingly, the case was filed by a lawyer named Anoop Kaushik from Aligarh targeting the Bollywood star saying that he is hosting a vulgar and obscene show. The case filed against the program's content or the producer, director of the show is something which can be considered as fare but slamming the host of the show Salman sounds little unrealistic.

The viewers, who have been watching the show regularly, can vouch for Salman’s gentleman act and his very decent gestures towards the contestants as well as the viewers. Even when a hot Hollywood star like Pamela Anderson came as a guest in the Bigg Boss 4 house, Salman was very graceful and in his usual funny mode. The viewers never got to see him turning vulgar or performing any obscene acts.

Similarly, Shweta Tiwari and Sameer
Soni were also cited in the case but they were hardly seen doing any vulgar acts. Well, while Dolly Bindra was in the house, she instigated Shweta and Samir to use some rough words but that was still tolerable than Veena Malik’s intimate scenes with actor Ashmit Patel.

The court's hearing was held yesterday. Keep looking for this space for more updates

Deepika, Sonam's on KWK

This week of 'Koffee With Karan season 3' saw actresses Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor on the couch with Karan Johar. The chat show turned out to be a house on fire, when both the girls kept hinting about their sweet and sour relationship with Ranbir Kapoor.

The Kapoor was one thing in common between the two girls and the beauties didn't leave any stone unturned to make fun of their in-common ex-boyfriend. The bonding between the ladies was more like the saying that reads “ The enemy of my enemy is my friend.”

While Deepika said that she would gift him a pack of condoms, Sonam commented that he needed a better stylist. Moreover, both the actress rated him very low on the sex-appeal. Both of them constantly said that Ranbir is more of a friend material than a boyfriend material as he is very unfaithful in his relationships.

After watching the show, it was obvious that Ranbir Kapoor was not happy with all the comments against him. He said that he was very upset on the girls for talking about him on National Television. Ranbir has been linked to Sonam Kapoor when they were shooting for their debut film Sawariya and his relationship with Deepika ended on a bitter note with her accusing him of infidelity.

Though the show was fun to watch, it definitely looked it was more of a Ranbir's show than that of a Sonam and Deepika chat show.

Watch conversation with Deepika Padukone and Sonam Kapoor on 'Koffee With Karan'....

Sylvester Stallone on B B 4

Now the girls should get ready to feel the heat. Bigg Boss is geared to send another Hollywood star in the house and this time, it’s a male. He is none other than the famous Rambo, Sylvester Stallone. He will spend few days in the house as a special guest.

Sylvester Stallone might be new to Indian television but he has tasted Bollywood films. He has shared screen space with Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor in ‘Kambaqht Ishq’.

He is very famous in India and definitely the show will get good return with his presence on the show. The TRPs of the show is expected to soar higher. Pamela Anderson has charged Rs 2.5 crore for her three days stay in the house and Stallone is also expected to pay a whopping amount.

Pamela has learnt making rotis and sabzi in the house. Now lets see what Rambo will learn from the inmates and what experience will he gain.

Shilpa's first wedding anniversary

Recently on the eve of her first wedding anniversary
Shilpa Shetty tweeted on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, “Thanks so much to all of u for all ure good wishes :) Fever gone with my VOICE! Hubbys happy, I am the ideal wife, perfect with no voice ;) haha.”

The tweet came before Shilpa and her dear hubby Raj Kundra left for Dubai.

Beauty and the Rich
Shilpa Shetty's engagement news with Raj Kundra had come as a surprise to everyone.

It broke the hearts of many, when this beautiful damsel claimed to find a perfect soul mate in Raj Kundra.

Raj Kundra, who was then divorced, found himself richer that day. Though he is a year younger to Shilpa, none of that seems to matter the duo.

Well, looks like nothing more than a true love to me. Khair as they say, “Pyar andha hota hai.”

Sadly, the thespian, famous for her well toned figure, was recently diagnosed with pharyngitis, a kind of throat infection, which has turned her mute for few days.

Mangalsutra as per convenience
In an earlier controversy, the ‘dharam gurus’ accused Shilpa of impurifying the minds of young wives by instigating them to wear Mangalsutra around their wrist, instead of neck.

But ignoring the remarks Shilpa continued with her bracelet cum Mangalsutra style.

We hope that next we won’t have to see someone wearing Mangalsutra as an anklet!

A list of expensive gifts from Raj to Shilpa
• A 7 crore flat in central London.

• An IPL team, Rajasthan Royals, for which he paid $15.4 million.

• A diamond solitaire engagement ring.

• Two flats in high end buildings in Juhu.

• A seven-bedroom home in Weybridge, Surrey (Raj wanted to put it up for sale but Shilpa persuaded him not to.)

• Club royalty in Bandra.

• A blue Lamborghini.

• V8 Gourmet Group of restaurants (including Tiffinbites) in London.

• Numerous expensive flowers and bouquets.

• And now, Rs. 8 crore flat in Burj Khalifa, Dubai.

As for those less expensive gifts, the list is endless. No doubt Raj Kundra is ready to go to any depth to spoil darling Shilpa. Seems like a perfect perfect love to me. What say?

B K B is about space in relationships

Debutant director Danish Aslam's romantic comedy Break Ke Baad, on the need for space in relationships, will see Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone, who play childhood friends-turned lovers, going their separate ways for some time.

Produced by Kunal Kohli Productions

Reliance Big Pictures and IBC Motion Pictures, the movie also stars Sharmila Tagore, Navin Nischol, Shahana Goswami and Lilette Dubey.

"It's a young urban story, but at its heart it has a classical romantic element to it," Imran said about the film.

The story of the movie focuses on Abhay Gulati (Imran) and Aaliya Khan (Deepika), who are childhood friends turned lovers. While Aaliya desires to become an actress irrespective of whatever it takes, Abhay is still unsure about his calling. As their relationship blossoms, the pair start facing differences due to their different personalities.

Things become difficult when Aaliya decides to go to Australia for further studies and Abhay gets restricted to a long distance relationship, and fears that he will lose her forever. They then decide to take time off from each other to figure out their priorities in life and career.

The two eventually make mistakes, deal with disappointments, even lose each other but become stronger individually.

"Space is a word that is used a lot in a modern relationship. It's almost a break-up mantra. I wanted to explore that concept rather than a conventional love story where two people don't know each other, meet and fall in love," Aslam told IANS.

"I wanted to show what happens to two people, who have known each other for their entire life, if their relationship breaks. I found the concept more exciting than just writing run-of-the-mill love story," he added.

Talking about her character Aliya, Deepika said: "She believes that if you are in a relationship, it doesn't mean you have to get married. She doesn't believe that a couple have to live together and certain things like that. Her way of thinking about a relationship is very different. She is also very immature sometimes when it comes to relationships," she added.

Imran said that he could easily relate to his character in this film as he found himself in a similar situation a few years ago.

"So being in a relationship and not knowing where my life was headed is something I could relate to," said Imran.

Both actors are looking for a hit with Break Ke Baad as both their last outings I Hate Luv Storys and Lafange Parindey, respectively, tanked at the box office.

Sunny Deol is finally back

As a first in his long film career, Sunny Deol is finally playing the role of a Muslim in the upcoming film Khuda Kasam that hits theatres this Friday.

Stuck in love
He plays a truck driver in love with a Hindu girl, played by Tabu. It also marks the return of director KC Bokadia to the big league after his 1999 film, Lal Baadshah, starring Amitabh Bachchan. “Yes, this is Sunny Deol’s first role as a Muslim in any film. He plays a honest truck driver trapped in an ammunition deal,” confirms Bokadia, who feels that the condition of films has deteriorated over the past couple of years with filmmakers only interested in making profits.

The movie is an effort by the director to foster brotherhood between the country’s two major religions, Hinduism and Islam. “In our country, no one Hindu or Muslim is bad. It’s just that there certain people in the country who misguide others to further their own aims,” Bokadia says. “Neither a Hindu nor a Muslim will ever leave the country and go anywhere because of these divides. I hope Khuda Kasam will help in the cause of Hindu-Muslim brotherhood.”

Aamir get bald again ....

Aamir Khan has again don ‘Ghajini’ look. He has shaved off his hair. It is assumed that he has chopped his hair for his new film. Aamir Khan is a perfectionist and he can go to any extent to bring perfection to his role. He takes every pain to look perfect. Whether going bald or growing thick moustache, he never compromises with his role.

It is believed that his new avatar is for his new film to be directed by Reema Kagti and co-produced by Aamir and Excel Entertainment. In this movie, Aamir Khan will play a cop.

He has not completely shaved off his hair but kept very short hair and left it to grow to take the shape that he is looking for.

A source close to Aamir confirmed, "Aamir has shaved his head, but not completely. It's basically a look which resembles the one he had in Ghajini."

His favorite hair stylist Avan Contractor had shaved off his hair for 'Ghajini' but this time a new hair dresser has been assigned. "The shaving happened on November 8. It was done at his residence. Obviously, nobody else was present except a new hairdresser and Aamir's family", added the source.

"Now, Aamir will growing his hair all over again. And he shall settle on the crop which he feels would best suit him."

KBC-4 first 'crorepati'

Rahat Tasneem, the maiden contestant to win the prize money of Rs one crore in the fourth season of popular game show 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' (KBC) is confidence personified, a trait which was even lauded by the show's host megastar Amitabh Bachchan. Coming from a small town of Giridih in
Jharkhand, the 37-year-old says she played well utilising the options of 'phone a friend', 'double dip', 'expert advice' and 'audience poll' effectively.

Rahat said that she was confused initially and had to use the lifelines. "But, from the stage of Rs 3.20 lakh to Rs 50 lakh, I knew my answers and did not require lifelines."

"When Big B asked me where did I get my confidence from, I replied it stemmed from self-belief and the fact that I knew it all," she said.

Rahat won the crore sum by opting for 'double dip' to a question about which state did the first woman president of an African nation, belong.

"I was confused so I used my last lifeline (double dip)," she said adding she quit the game as she did not know the answer of the jackpot query of Rs 5 crore on the first heart transplant. "I did not have any lifelines left."

The lucky housewife had only Rs three in her mobile phone as balance when it began all, with a question on Hindu mythology on October 16. "I decided to take a chance and send the SMS," Rahat said.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is down with high fever

Fever keeps Ash from promoting Guzaarish

Bollywood star Aishwarya Rai
, who was supposed to arrive here Tuesday to promote her upcoming film Guzaarish, had to cancel her trip at the last minute due to fever.

The actress has been jetsetting for promoting the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film, in which she plays a nurse named Sofia.

"Aishwarya is not travelling to Delhi. She is down with fever. She has had a hectic week of promotions," her spokesperson told IANS.

The 37-year-old was travelling Nov 11-13 and went to Dubai and London for a day each. After reaching Mumbai Nov 13 afternoon, she packed her bags to promote the film in Kolkata the next day.

Before the promotions for Guzaarish, she was also busy promoting her other big films Action Replayy and Robot.

Her co-star Hrithik Roshan too has been under the weather, but he accompanied Bhansali for the press conference in the capital.

Guzaarish, a story about a magician who becomes quadriplegic when one of his tricks goes wrong, will release Friday.

Imran's foot massage

Deepika loves Imran's foot massage

If there's one thing that Deepika Padukone found relaxing while shooting for her upcoming film Break Ke Baad, it was a foot massage by her co-star Imran Khan.

Deepika was surprised when she found that Imran, who had to give her a foot massage for a particular scene, was actually quite good at it, a source said.

"Deepika was in for a big surprise when Imran gave her the best foot massage she ever had. She had no idea that Imran could have that skill," he added.

Apparently, his massaging skills became so popular on the sets that whenever the unit had a long schedule or anyone's feet used to hurt, they rushed to Imran.

Break Ke Baad, produced by Kunal Kohli and directed by Danish Aslam, is a film about space needed in relationships.

Salman spotted sketching

At the press meet to support the campaign of donation of bone marrow to Marrow Donor Registry of India, actor Salman Khan got in a mood to sketch.

The press photographers saw a live display of the painter-sketcher Salman at work as the superstar drew a sketch of a bearded man that looked like Jesus Christ.

It’s no secret that Salman has a fascination for sketching and painting Christ. He recently gifted his painting ‘Jesus in Prayer’ to Sushmita Sen.

What particularly bowled us over was Salman’s dexterity on the paper. Check out the stills of Salman ‘the artist’ at work.
