Dharmendra turns 75



Legendary macho actor Dharmendra turns 75 on December 08, 2010. He is regarded as the undisputed "Action King" of Hindi cinema having starred in numerous action blockbusters, and is considered a living legend. Husband of dream girl Hema Malini , he is father of notable actors - Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol and Esha Deol and Aahna Deol.

Reportedly, for his 75 birthday, daughter Esha and Aahna planned a surprise party in Chennai. Having made his debut with 'Dil Bhi Tera, Hum Bhi Tere', he worked in several romantic black and white films in the early 1960s, hitting solo hero stardom with 'Phool Aur Patthar' (1966).

He was also the main lead of the all-time blockbuster film, 'Sholay' (1975) and then acted in numerous successful Bollywood films cutting across four decades. At the start of his career, he was usually cast as a romantic hero and later in the period from 1974 onwards as an action hero. He starred with several leading actresses at the beginning of his career.

His most successful pairing was with Hema Malini, whom he later married. He formed a hit pair in 'Raja Jani', 'Seeta Aur Geeta', 'Sharafat', 'Tum Haseen Main Jawaan, Jugnu', 'Maa', 'Chacha Bhatija', 'Azaad', 'Teesri Aankh', and 'The Burning Train' . Thus, the audience found complete chemistry in the Dharam-Hema pair. In 1997 he received the Filmfare Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to Hindi cinema. 


After a few years' hiatus from acting since the early 2000s, he reappeared in films 'Life in a Metro' and 'Apne' that were both successful at the box office. His other release was 'Johnny Gaddaar', where he played a villainous role. His latest film 'Yamla Pagla Deewana' is set to release on January 14, 2011. Apart from this, he was elected Member of Parliament. we wishes the veteran actor a very happy birthday.
