Anurag Kashyap to marry Kalki on April 30

Gear up for another Bollywood wedding! Actor Kalki Koechlin is all set to tie the knot with her filmmaker-fiancé Anurag Kashyap. “Yes, we are planning to get married, but we haven’t fixed a date yet. We’re too caught up with work right now. But whenever the wedding happens, it’ll be a simple and private affair,” says Kalki, who got engaged to Anurag in a quiet ceremony recently.

Meanwhile, Kalki has grown close and fond of her to-be in-laws, whom she met in Benares during the shoot of Anurag’s forthcoming directorial, Gangs Of Wasseypur. “His parents love me a lot and they fed me some great food. I think they adore me because I eat a lot,” she laughs, before adding, “They’re the nicest people I’ve met.”

Though a date for the marriage is yet to be set, rumours suggest that the couple is looking to seal the deal by the end of this year or early next. Either way, Kalki is looking forward to the D-day.

“Since Dev D (2009), Anurag and I have understood each other very well. And quite naturally, marriage is the next step for us,” says the actor, who has been in a live-in relationship with Anurag for three years. “Though we’re both always busy, we seem to have struck a good balance in our lives.”

Kalki had made her debut in Anurag’s interpretation of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Bengali novel Devdas. Since then, the two artistes have worked together in the yet-to-be-released That Girl In Yellow Boots and the forthcoming, Shaitan, for which Anurag dons the producer’s hat.

“For That Girl In Yellow Boots, he gave me a lot of freedom to portray my character, Ruth. He gives you a lot of space as a creative person, but at the same time, I know when I have to listen to him and not argue,” smiles Kalki, adding that she could shoot the intimate scenes required of her in That Girl In Yellow Boots because of their indelible trust.

It's the wedding season... After Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi, Anurag Kashyap and Kalki are all set to tie the knot on April 30. That leaves us asking the question, when are the much-in-love Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor going to tie the knot.

Speculations are rife that an announcement will be made post the release of 'Agent Vinod', a project that is very close to Saif's heart. However, we also hear that Saif has already popped the marriage question to Kareena. We are told, "Saif is ready. Saif is waiting for Kareena to get ready. She has to revert to him with the date and time!"

Apparently, Kareena has managed to get close to Saif's family. And while love is in the air, all are only waiting for the announcement to be made.

Finally Lara and Mahesh at Honeymoon ...

 

Actress Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi have finally taken out some time for their honeymoon. It has been more than two months since they got married.

Soon after their wedding, which took place in Feb, the couple zoomed away to Dubai for Bhupathi’s tennis match in Dubai Open. Thereafter, both Lara and Mahesh have been very busy with their packed schedules, that they hardly found time for each other.

Lately, she has been busy promoting Chalo Dilli which is her maiden co-production and stars her opposite Vinay Pathak.

After the film releases this Friday, Lara and Mahesh plan to finally head off for what could now be called their belated honeymoon.

Buzz has it that the two would be flying to Bali for their honeymoon.

Kat's sensuous dance number !!!

Sheila superceded her expectations. Katrina Kaif, though, isn't sitting back on er, her starry rear, and resting on her past laurels. Rather, she's gearing up to raise the (dance) bar on that front with her 'item number' in the Yash Raj Films starrer Mere Brother Ki Dulhan

Reportedly, the track crafted by Sohail Sen, has been patterned rather heavily on the ek do teen chartbuster from Madhuri Dixit's Tezaab. Word has it that Kat apparently broke into an impromptu jig the instant she heard a snatch of the number… even as a shy Aditya Chopra turned all red faced with embarrassment.

An elated Katrina squeals in a tabloid chat, "I'm shooting a full on 'tapori' dance number for Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, that has me dancing at a roadside dhaba. The number is earthy and sensuous, but not suggestive. Sheila has become my benchmark for all my dance numbers. I was told to better Sheila ki jawaani and I'm trying my best to do that."

Apparently, Aditya Chopra's brief to Sen prior to serving up the track was to "go beyond Sheila." And choreographer Bosco (one half of the Bosco Caesar duo) received a diktat from the YRF honcho restraining him from going in for "raunchy and suggestive steps."

As per insiders, Kat is quietly filming for the track within the YRF Studio confines sporting a new 'look'. A YRF unit member states, "For Katrina, it's actually a case of one upmanship over her last calling card Sheila ki jawani and hoping that she'll be able to deliver much beyond it, this time."

Arjun Rampal says he is fear of Salman Khan. Shah Rukh Khan’s close friend Arjun Rampal does not want to race with Salman Khan. Recently, Arjun bought a cruiser bike and when asked with which actor he would like to race, the actor replied, “I am not going to race with Salman, I am afraid of him. But yes I would like to race with John,” says Arjun. The actor will be seen in SRK’s upcoming movie Ra.One in the title role.

Speaking about his role Arjun says, “In Ra.One I have played a complete different role. It was the toughest role of my entire career. You can see me riding a sports bike and doing some good action scenes.” Speaking about his passion for bikes Arjun says, “When I was young I used to drive a lot of bikes. But after marriage my wife does not allow me as she feels it unsafe. One day I would love to tour India on a bike.”

Irfan Pathan is dating VJ- Anusha

They always try to keep it secret but it's almost impossible to hide a celebrity love-story, especially if a cricketer and someone from Bollywood are involved. Rumour has it that Irfan Pathan is dating VJ-actor, Anusha Dandekar and the two want no unnecessary publicity.

Reports also suggest that Anusha recently flew down to Irfan's hometown to meet him. However, Irfan is busy working hard on his form and trying to make it back to the Indian cricket team.

Top five Bollywood remixes

The remixes revolve around rendering refreshing touches to the original sound tracks of the films belonging to yester years. It is one of the aspects involving film creation and more particularly the creation pertaining to its music. The renovated tracks which are introduced as parts of current and forthcoming films involve either a partial or a complete recreation. The remixed version thus hinges on an artistic amalgam of a new playback singer with his new style of rendering, new diction and sometimes a revised lyrical pattern. The new playback singer and that of a new set of actors delineating the same contributes to the changed dimension.

1. Dum Maro Dum

Among the innumerable remixes, a few deserves special mention. The title track of Dum Maro Dum is originally inspired by the sound track ‘Dum Maro Dum…looth gaye hum’, from the renowned Zeenat Aman starrer “Hare Krishna Hare Ram”. It happened to be one of the bumper hits of the 70’s. Anushka Manchanda lends her voice to the track which undergoes a complete change in terms of its diction, rhythm and number. Except for the catchy refrain ‘Dum Maro Dum’ there is a significant change in its focus. The original soundtrack had displayed the provoking gestures of Zeenat Aman, the current one features the upbeat Deepika moving round in circles.

 2. Bachchna Aye Haaseno

‘Baachna Aye Haaseno’ sung by the late Kishore Kumar depicting Rishi Kapoor was a part of the commercially acclaimed “Hum Kisi se kam nahin”. The sound track has recently been revived with a fresh lease of life to adorn a film by the same name. The new sound track goes ahead in time depicting the promising offspring of Rishi. The choreography highlighting Ranbir Kapoor is partly original. But mostly, Ranbir is seen copying his father’s steps. The modernized edition which includes three of the ravishing beauties is replete with beats typical of a dance number. Extra bit of lyrics have been added on to the original number.

3.  Monica Oh My Darling

Once Upon A Time In Mumbai recreates another popular soundtrack of the previous days. The original sound track consisting of ‘Monica oh my darling’ was one of the catchy numbers characterizing Caravan released in 1971. The song which featured Helen was sung by R.D Burman and Asha Bhosenle. Pritam Chowdhury the music director of the resent film gives it a new flavour. The song ‘Parda’ of Once Upon…. reveals the touches of twin musical tracks of R.D Burman. The cabaret number which once featured the skills of Helen upholds the skills of the newly introduced item girl Gauhar Khan.

 4. Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo

Jabaaz featuring Rekha boasted of a peppy number “Pyaar Do Pyaar Lo”. The original song sung by Sapna Mukherjee portrayed the seductively beautiful Rekha. Thank You which is one of the forthcoming releases of Aneez Bazmee will include the similar number to be sung by Mika. While the previous one had Rekha lip sing to the tune sung by Sapna, the recent one will have Akshay, Irfaan and Bobby dancing in the middle of provocatively dressed females.

5.  Apka Kya Hoga Janaab Ae Aali

The film Lavaris featured Amitabh Bachhan with all his known histrionics in the song “Apka Kya Hoga Janaab Ae Aali”. The playback sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha escalated the summit of popularity. Houseful released in 2010 recreates a similar version featuring Akshay, Arjun and Ritesh. The singers Mika and Sunidhi as well as the concerned actors add to the flamboyance and sensuousness of the original sound track.

Zayed Khan's wife expecting second baby

 

Actor Zayed Khan is expecting bundle of joy in August. He has already a son named Zidane and his wife Malaika Khan is pregnant for the second time.

ZK confirms, "I am happy to be a father again because it feels very homely and I am very family-oriented. It's been a wonderful journey of discovery with my son who sometimes acts more like he's my father than he is my son (laughs)."

Is it a daughter in this mind this time around? "I am looking forward to any kid. It's another journey."

Professionally too Zayed is riding high. He is going to launch his production house in association with Dia Mirza and Sahil Singha named Born Free Entertainment. The film will be a romantic comedy called Love Break Up And Zindagi starring ZK and Dia.

"It's been a great shoot," he notes, adding, "I've worked with sincere people. The title was mine and the germ of the story was Dia's while Sahil is directing the film."

The actor adds, "We will launch a website called bornfreeentertainment.com in two weeks. It will share our behind-the-scene experiences as producers for people who want to be producers."

Once again Big B hosts KBC season 5…

 

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan is once again, all set to host the popular and hit reality game show ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’. This is the fifth season.

“Preparing now for KBC next season starting I think in a few months… creative and promo discussions today … very interesting,” Bachchan said on micro-blogging site Twitter yesterday.

The superstar made his first appearence on Indian Television with the first season of KBC aired in the year 2000. KBC is a replica of a UK game show ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?’

Buzz had it that , last year, when Sr Bachchan was approched by the makers of KBC, for the fifth season, he had asked for the opinion of his fans.

Big B hosted three out of four seasons of KBC. the third season was hosted by Bollywood badshah Shahrukh Khan.

"KWK3 bids farewell tonight... thank you for all the love people... it has been a steaming ride!! Will miss this kaffeine kick tremendously!!!," Johar posted on his Twitter page Sunday night.

Salman insisted on adapting Ringa Ringa a hit Telugu song from Arya 2 and transformed it to Dhinka Chika for his upcoming movie. Not just that, he was unhappy with the lyrics of the Hindi film’s song and asked them to be changed.

A source revealed, “Salman always gets what he wants. He has a great rapport with the Ready producer Bhushan Kumar. He rang him up saying the song needs new lyrics. In fact he refused to shoot for the song until they came up with better lyrics. Since they were on an outdoor shoot in Bangkok, the crew went ahead and shot the song nonetheless.”

Salman sat with Devi Sri Prasad, the composer of the original Telugu track and came up with new lyrics. Buzz is that the actor bore the entire expenses of re-shooting the complete song with new lyrics.

“He wants Dhinka Chika to be the song of 2011. It already has the potential to be a huge chartbuster. Hence Salman got new lyrics penned and re-recorded the whole song,” the source added.

Grade: C: Ek Baar Chalta Hai

Rohan Sippy’s Dum Maaro Dum is a slick action-crime thriller, that revolves around six Indians who meet in Goa and how their lives change forever, once they find themselves caught up with the drug menace.

ACP Vishnu Kamath (Abhishek Bachchan) is assigned by the Chief Minister of Goa to exterminate the drug mafia, which was spreading like a plague. Mercy (Muzammil S. Qureshi) and Rane (Govind Namdeo), his two assistants, assist him in carrying out his assignments of catching Lorsa Biscuita aka Biscuit (Aditya Pancholi), who is the main drug dealer in that area.

Laurie (Prateik Babbar) is a young simpleton, who falls prey into the drug web, after getting caught red handed, smuggling cocaine from the country. Joki (Rana Daggubati), Laurie’s well wisher, pleads of Laurie’s innocence to the ACP, trying to make him realize that Laurie was a mere pawn.

Zoe (Bipasha Basu), Joki’s chick, was caught in the same drug web five years ago, that Laurie was in now. It was Biscuita who came to her rescue by using his influence to get her out. But, in return, he made Zoe his girlfriend despite being married. Hence, Joki’s concern for Laurie.

The story further unfurls itself with the ACP realizing that the drug racket was actually not carried out by Biscuita but by an invisible man named Michael Barbusa, who uses various aliases to operate from different cities.

The story comes to its climax with ACP completing the given task of busting the drug racket along with Joki and Laurie.

The narration and the dialogues, make the flick worth watching. The director did a splendid job by keeping the suspense alive till the end. The unexpected twists thrown in the end worked wonders for the production. While the first half showed some movement in the theater, the second made sure the audiences were glued to their seats.

Abhishek Bachchan did an amazing job as a tough cop. The only thing that played against his cop stature was his pot belly and double chin.

Rana Daggubati was dull initially, but played the climax spectacularly. Prateik Babbar portrayed his innocence, brilliantly.

Bipasha Basu was naturally good.

Pritam Chakraborty did an awesome job on the music, Amit Roy’s cinematography was appealing, Aarif Shaik’s editing is the biggest plus point. Deepika Padukone’s raunchy item number adds glamour to the entire movie.

Final word: An adrenaline pumped thriller, not best suited for the romantic ones.

MBKD : First Look…

Here is the first look of Mere Brother Ki Dulhan featuring Katrina Kaif, Imran Khan and Ali Zafar in the lead, was released on April 19 by Yash Raj Films.

The poster shows a colorful three wheel tempo, with Imran Khan at the driver seat, Katrina sitting in the rear wheel guard and Ali leaning against the tempo rear.

The poster undoubtedly promises full on comedy.

Written and directed by debutant Ali Abbas Zafar, “Mere Brother ki Dulhan” is a topsy-turvy story set amongst upper middle class families in northern India. Imran Khan plays a character who falls in love with his brother’s (Ali Zafar) fiancée (Katrina Kaif). Filled with humor and romance, the flick promises to tickle your funny bones.

When Shahrukh khan sang for Kunal Ganjawalla

New Delhi, April 21 – Singer Kunal Ganjawalla was in for a pleasant surprise when Bollywood badshah Shah Rukh Khan sang his popular song ‘Bheege hoth tere’ for him recently.

Ganjawalla was in Kolkata for a performance and was invited for an afterparty for the victory of Shah Rukh’s Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). As soon as the singer entered, Shah Rukh greeted him by singing a few lines from the song, and introduced him to cricketer Yusuf Pathan and others, as his favourite singer, said a source.

The singer was flattered.

‘Shah Rukh bhai’s sense of humor is legendary…he has a sharp sense of humour and it is always delightful to meet him. He was in a jubilant mood after the team’s great performance and win and he really does like my song 

‘Bheege hoth’, so hearing him sing it as a greeting to me was very cool,’ he said.

Ganjawalla’s other popular songs include ‘Channa vey’ and ‘Raat ke dhai baje’.

 Bollywood superstar Salman Khan and newcomer Sonakshi Sinha have been named the most searched Indian celebrities on the web in a new survey by Indian movie portal.

Salman beat action star Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn in the survey carried across the metros as well as tier-II and tier-III cities. Bollywood heartthrobs Ranbir Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor wrapped up the top five.

She might be one-film old, but Sonakshi came ahead of the likes of Priyanka Chopra and Katrina Kaif to be the most searched celebrity on the internet among the female brigade.

Sonakshi made her debut with blockbuster “Dabangg” alongside Salman Khan and will now be seen with Akshay in Shirish Kunder’s “Joker” and in “Dabangg 2″.

 

Priyanka came second and Sonam Kapoor followed at the third slot. Aishwarya Rai and Katrina Kaif landed at the fourth and fifth spots in the survey.

Guess who paid the actor a late night visit???

Well, we are talking about Kangana Ranaut. News has it that she stayed with him for four hours and left in his car early in the morning. Apparently, Kangs was out with friends around midnight and made a surprise visit to Salman when she heard that he was shooting at Filmistan Studios.

Kangana spent some time with Salman’s friends and brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri and soon, Sallu joined them.

In a recent interview with a popular tabloid, Kangs spoke about her relationship with Salman.
 

She says, “I first met Salman on the sets of Dus Ka Dum and we became friends instantly. With time, I realized that he is probably the only person in the industry who genuinely loves me.”

“He has stood by me in my good and bad times. I don’t know if other people will be there or not, but he will.”

However, she was categorical in denying that she and Salman are dating.

Kangana will make a cameo appearance in Salman’s upcoming film Ready, along with Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgn.

Ranbir : 'I never dated Katrina'

 

Ranbir Kapoor has been trying hard to get rid of his casanova image. In a recent interview he tried to clear the air about his ‘so called’ love affair with Katrina Kaif.

Here’s what Ranbir had to say. "We never dated each other, so there's no question of us breaking up."

A little backgrounder:  Katrina had been dating Salman. And Ranbir and Deepika were going steady. Then came ‘Ajab Prem Ki Gajab Kahani’ where Katrina was paired opposite Ranbir. The two became friends and soon after we heard that they had ditched their respective partners and were dating each other.

Deepika, we hear, had a tiff with Katrina. And Salman made Katrina uneasy when she was promoting ‘Tees Maar Khan’ on Bigg Boss.

Katrina and Ranbir were spotted together at various social dos. Till Ranbir was spotted with his new co-star Nargis Fakhri. Katrina, we hear was upset and tried her level best to patch up.

And when nothing worked, she was heartbroken and took off to London for a break.

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says he will take off his shirt, a'la Sourav Ganguly, to show off his six-pack abs if his Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) team reaches the Indian Premier League (IPL) final this year.

"If we reach the final at Chennai, I will take off my shirt, fluff it in the air, and show my six pack abs... or may be eight pack abs," Shah Rukh said at the Eden Gardens Sunday, after KKR won their third match on the trot with an eight-wicket decimation of Rajasthan Royals.

The final is slated to be played at the Chepauk Ground in Chennai.

In 2002, after winning the Natwest Trophy final against England, then Indian skipper Ganguly had celebrated by taking off his shirt and waving it in the air from the Lords balcony.

Ganguly was criticised by the English, but he retorted saying he was only returning the same act performed by English all-rounder Andrew Flintoff during a series in India.

Ganguly, who has featured in the KKR side in all the past three editions of IPL, was not considered for the team this year.

Director Siddharth Anand confirmed it will be an action packed film; industry speculates it's a remake of Hollywood hit Knight and Day

Shahid Kapoor will star in a suspected action flick directed by Siddharth Anand and produced by Ramesh Taurani of Tips.

The industry is abuzz with speculation that the film is along the lines of the Hollywood hit Knight and Day, starring Tom Cruise.

A source close to the Tips production house, told us, "It is quite similar to the movie Knight and Day. In fact the filmmakers want to purchase the rights to the original."

Although Anand confirms that Kapoor will have his first shot in an action film, he denies the rumours about its similarity to the Hollywood movie. He tells us, "No, Tips has got nothing to do with Knight and Day.

We are making an original film. It's a different genre altogether. Shahid's film is an all out action flick."

Taurani, on the other hand, not only dismisses the speculations but also manages to contradict the genre of the film that Anand confirmed.

The head honcho of Tips said, "What is this film Knight and Day? No it's wrong. We are making a romantic film, not action."

SRK in Ajmer, offers chaddar on mother's anniversary

AJMER: The badshah of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, came to Ajmer dargah on Friday to place a chaddar on his mother's 20th death anniversary. The entire region went berserk as the star "emerged".

"I came to get his autograph and was also hopeful of posing for a photo with him," said Sunil, student of DAV College Ajmer. A large contingent of police was deployed to curb any untoward incident.

Grapevine had it that Shahrukh Khan offered prayers at Ajmer for the fortuity of his IPL team Kolkata Knight Riders.

However, such reports were later proved false as SRK visited the shrine of Sufi Saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti to offer chadar on the 20th death anniversary of his mother.

Hearing the actor’s visit, several people from the city waited to get his autograph and also to pose for a photograph with the actor.

It’s heard that the police were having a tough time in controlling the mad crowd at the shrine.

Shahrukh to lock lips with Kareena Kapoor

Shahurkh’s fans are in for a surprise as the actor is supposedly going to lock lips with Kareena in a song sequence for ‘Ra.One’.

The actor who is known for his on-screen romance has decided to spice up his upcoming film with a romantic kiss.

Speaking about the kissing scene in ‘Ra.One’, Kareena stated, “I have kissed many other guys in the movies before, therefore, it was not an issue for me."

Working with Shahrukh was a nice experience-Akon

The pop icon Akon, who has crooned a song in Shahrukh’s superhero flick ‘Ra.One’, was in all praises for the Baadshah of Bollywood and in a recent interview stated that working in the film was a nice experience.

“Working with Shahrukh was an amazing experience. He opened me up to Bollywood. He made me see a whole new light and the possibilities. I enjoyed it so much that I'm trying to sneak in now,” said Akon.

Not only that, the singer also confessed that he definitely wants to get into Bollywood.

"I am waiting to get into Bollywood movies. I'm not quite sure what character I would want to play...but I definitely want to do it,” added the R&B singer.

Bollywood 10 Favourite Movie Lines

A couple of evenings back, I sat in my living room on a dull Bangalore evening flipping channels, when I noticed 'As Good As It Gets' had just started on HBO (or Star Movies, I can't recall).

Knowing it to be a classic romantic drama, I stayed put. Eventually, I got to the scene where Melvin Udall, the cranky, tough-to-have-a-decent-conversation-with writer finally goes out to dinner with Carol Connelly, and when she forces him to give her a compliment, he manages to say, "You make me want to be a better man".

And suddenly I remembered this to be one of the most-loved movie lines ever! Bang! There was a flourish of lines that came into my head; from some of the favourite movies I have watched over the years.

I have got a lot of complaints that I don't mention instances from Bollywood flicks; so I just wanted to reiterate, I love Bollywood, and this post will be a chance for some respite.

So here are some of my favourite movie one-liners ever.

"May the force be with you"

Who can forget this Star Wars classic line? If you have watched any of the Stars Wars double trilogy movies, this line is probably repeated millions of times through the course of the narrative.

"Tumhara naam kya hai Basanti?"

This line ALWAYS cracks me up. And the best part is the visual that comes along with it. Amitabh's character Jai sitting at the back of Basanti's rickety horse tanga, looking bored, uninterested; while Dharmendra's character Veeru is trying his best to woo the village belle. Hilarious! I know there are some classic lines in Sholay that are worth mentioning, but somehow, this one has always been my favourite. Let me know what is your favourite Sholay line.

"The name is Bond, James Bond"

Now, if you can't tell what line this is, then what have you seen? (A very poor translation of the Hindi saying 'Yeh nahi dekha toh kya dekha?') A must-have line for every single Agent 007 film that was ever made, this line is, for sure, a classic in the one-liner hall of fame.

"Mere paas maa hai"

… And that's how Shashi Kapoor made Amitabh Bachchan shut up in the classic Bollywood movie Deewar; and not to mention, delivered arguably the best one-liner there is in Bollywood cinema.

"You complete me/You had me at hello"

Boyfriends beware! When Tom Cruise said this line to his silver screen girlfriend Rene Zellweger in Jerry Maguire, he made a benchmark that not many can better. And although I find this line one of the most cheesiest there ever was, well, what can one say about love?

"Yeh jo dhaai kilo ka haath…"

I can't help but remember a friend of mine imitating this classic Sunny Deol line from Damini. My friend's take of that line is of course exaggerated and hilarious; but then again, think about it. The line actually means, 'This two and half kilo hand…"!!! Oh and don't miss the end of the dialogue, "…kissi pe padta hai na, woh admi uthta nahi, uth jata hai."

"This isn't personal. This is business/I'll make him an offer he can't refuse"

I have to admit, honestly, I am no fan of The Godfather trilogy. I find it a whole and soul 'guy-movie', and will leave it for the guys to watch. But consider this: How many times have you heard these lines? Whether in TV soaps or in other movies, these lines from Godfather made it what it is today.  A special mention has to be made about Al Pacino and veteran Marlon Brando. I don't think anyone else would have done justice to these lines.

"I love you K-k-k-Kiran!"

Watching SRK, the king of romance, take a psychotic U-turn in the movie Darr, was spine-chilling to say the least. His stammer, his extreme fixation for Juhi's character and his eventual death, were all new to his fans; and boy, did they lap it up. In a non-comparative way, SRK's role in Darr reminds me of Norman Bates from the Hollywood thriller Psycho. Brrrr!

"I'll be back"

And again, we have a bad boy role. Arnold Schwarzenegger, playing the bad guy in Terminator, delivers this line to give fans and movie-goers a sneak peek to what they could expect in the movie.

"Khamosh!"

Bollywood veteran Shatrugan Sinha used this line so liberally in his film Naram Garam, that it became synonymous with his personality! Recently, when he defeated Congress party's Shekhar Suman in Bihar Parliamentary elections, he is reported to have said, "I'd just like to tell him, 'Khamosh!'." A true artist, true to his filmi personality.

I know I had space for 10 only. But I have to mention 'Mogambo khush hua!' as a favourite too. One of the late Amrish Puri's most classic lines from Mr. India, this line is a sure shot favourite among people of all ages, just as the film in its entirety is a classic.

Skyline : Review

Skyline is a film of many firsts. The first alien movie to induce humour (unintentionally). The first time 95 % of the cast actually got a role in a 'real' production. The first time aliens who couldn't be tamed by nuclear missiles are forced to succumb to punches (the lead actor is actually seen throwing fists at one ET, 25 times his size in one scene). And hopefully the last time the talented VFX experts Brothers Strause (that's how Greg and Colin Strause are referred to) occupy the director's chair.

The film's plot is like a dozen other alien movies produced every year in Hollywood. Most of them only manage a DVD release. The basic premise is: aliens decide to invade earth, giant spaceships that resemble floating garbage dumps (emitting blue lazer lights) descend on Los Angeles to cause mayhem. This is when our instinctively-challenged cast decides that the safest place to take cover is by heading out on the streets (what is the collective IQ of the scriptwriters?). The lead cast deserves special mention here (since it's probably their first and last screen appearance). Like most classic strugglers, each of them has been styled to look like famous stars. So the main lead Jarrod (Eric Balfour) makes for a poor man's Adrien Brody and Elaine (Scottie Thompson) is trying to pass off as Elen Pompeo from Grey's Anatomy.

If you care for the storyline, it has Jarrod and Elaine visiting their LA friend Terry (Donald Faison), who believes in living it up in LA (Cosmos by the pool etc) without any trace of an occupation. Makes you wonder who's paying for the penthouse, flowing alcohol and all-day parties. The producers of this film perhaps? Anyway, so after a night of heavy drinking as the group crawls into corners of Terry's humungous duplex, something unimaginable happens. Blue lazers shoot down from the sky, across the city. What follows is too bright for words (literally). As you stare out of the window, all you see is this unbearably bright light beaming out at you. This puts the person in a hypnotic state, develops a henna tattoo on their face and turns their pupils into white or blue (or whatever freaks you out the most). The person then does a zombie-like walk towards the light and is soon sucked into it. After the light gobbles up some of the cast members and the script of Skyline, the rest decide on a clever plan: "Let's go up to the roof to see what's happening." This is followed by a string of pointless dialogues like, "You can't go up. You don't know what's out there." (Phew).

Eventually, Terry (armed with a gun) and Jarod (with his SLR) head up to the roof. What they see is a work of art. Could be the directors' favourite scene and the reason why they made this film. The skyline is transformed into a VFX fantasy with floating spaceships intermittently visible behind passing clouds. Could make an interesting screensaver?

Now, when you walk into a movie about aliens, you know little of what to expect. This is because creatures from outer space differ from film to film. But in Skyline, no two aliens look the same either. Some have tentacles, while almost all have many giant flood lights carelessly placed in different parts of the body. Their spaceships look like giant chunks of garbage and as they float about in the sky, you think if this could be the future of waste management.

Anyway, back to the story (even though you're don't care). Our cliched duo (one white and the other African American) rush back to their apartment to tell the others about the wonders of outer space that have invaded their city. Boo! Hoo! The group panics and decides to zip out of their apartment. But as they try to, one of the cars is flattened into a metallic sheet by a giant alien foot. They rush back to the apartment, losing some of the cast members and welcoming some new ones.

Various disgusting alien encounters follow. The best one being, the scene when someone slices open an alien, a human is splashed out covered in mysterious black sludge but in one piece and alive. Perhaps the alien's mum didn't teach him to chew his food properly. Soon, the Air force arrives with some fighter jets that mostly ram into each other or are blown down by the aliens. Since this part results in brilliant explosions it could wake you up if you've dozed off.

If you've survived the film till this point, you just want the incompetent aliens to get their act together and shred this group of non-actors as they get more insufferable with every passing scene. You overhear loud whispers across the move hall, "What's the runtime of this film again?" Your prayers are answered as this 92-minute-disaster draws to an end. Predictably, Jarrod and Elaine are the last to go. As they're flown up to the light, they passionately kiss each other and you hope it's the last you would see of them. But then the filmmakers have another reel left. So cut to, the inside of the alien spaceship where our loving couple is lying unconscious in a black sludge along with many others. An organised assembly line of aliens is tentacle-picking each human body, removing the brain and fitting it into a metallic chimp body. An unnecessary detail is that Elaine was pregnant at the time when they were abducted, so her body is flushed to another department for 'alien-ification'. But no! Jarrod, in his new alien chimp body comes to the rescue and the film ends on the horrific note that we should expect a sequel. Let's just hope the sky falls down on Brothers Stause and we're don't have to digest another installment of this horrendous adventure.

India, Koko talks about pregnancy and motherhood. Extracts from the cover story: “The pregnancy has meant a complete change in lifestyle. I used to be a smoker, overnight I couldn’t smoke or drink at all.”
“He (hubby Ranvir Shorey) is very good with kids, thank God, because I am really awkward around children.
We were both keen on having a baby soon though — because you know they say you should have your kids before a certain age. We’ve been saying, “Maybe next year,” for some time and on my last birthday, mom said, “Okay, you want to freeze your eggs now?!” This has happened at the right age and the right time for us and we couldn’t be happier.”

Take Me Home Tonight

2011 has been a disappointing year so far for Hollywood with box office duds like "Red Riding Hood" and "From Prada to Nada". Yet, there's much to be anticipative of. Here are a few movies you'd surely want to wait for.

Beginners

Beginners is a beautifully quirky film about how a man handles a bundle of shocking news (his elderly father announces that he has terminal cancer and that he's gay) while he tries to clutch on to a relationship. Evan McGreggor stars as the lead in this delightful journey about understanding, accepting and appreciating life.

Henry's Crime

If you've watched "Double Jeopardy", you know the US law, also applicable in India that forbids a person from being convicted of the same offense again. This loophole in the legal system is used by ex-con Henry (Keanu Reeves) in planning to rob the same bank he has falsely been convicted of robbing. Pickled along with this, is Henry's love story with a cynical woman called Julie (Vera Farmiga) who eventually becomes his partner in crime. Reeves hasn't been tremendously successful in comedies since "Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey", yet this one seems promising.

Take Me Home Tonight

From the goofy Eric Forman in "That '70s Show" to the sinister Venom in "Spiderman 3", Topher Grace has come a long way. This re-creation of a regular 80's high school rom-com finds him doing what celluloid teens over decades have done, to impress the one they love: lie and pretend to be rich. Though predictable, the film has a heart-warming innocence which will surely keep the box office cash register ringing.

 Limitless

This one subscribes to the perfect Hollywood formula. A man consumes a top-secret drug that extends supernatural abilities. But since Hollywood breeds on excess, every blessing becomes a curse and his special powers become a threat to his life. Bradley Cooper plays the lead in this action-packed thriller that also stars Robert De Niro. Whether the film's success will be limited or not is yet to be told but it's sure to keep you at the edge of your seat.

The Hangover Part 2

Every immensely successful film has to be remade, copied or at best, continued with a sequel. So, Hangover Part 2 borrows the best parts from its prequel and multiplies the madness by 100. This time around the band of drunken boys head to Bangkok for a wedding they would never forget or not. A series of singular events follow in the morning after a night of heavy intoxication. Alan (Zach Galifianakis) finds his head has been shaved, Stu (Ed Helms) has a permanent tattoo on his face and yes one of them is missing. Cheers to that!

Who is India’s most dangerous filmmaker?

Bengali film

A little independent Bengali film is creating a lot of buzz - five sold-out screenings at the 61st Berlinale in February this year, a successful screening at the Slamdance festival in Utah before that and the director has been invited to more than 30 international film festivals.

The subject is compelling- a story of petty crime, angry rap music and explicit sex and a film that has prolonged sex scenes and full-frontal nudity. Even the name of the director is intriguing, 'Q' - the director has adopted this letter as his identity.

Q explains, " the film was born from a sense of despair. It arrived in the form of words, out of anger, and a sense of desperation and hopelessness. That is exactly how one feels if the desire is to tell stories, unhinged and unashamed, for that's how stories should be told."

The complete article further states, "So he felt that the story of "Gandu," inspired and informed by real events and real characters, lent itself to a visual and aural experience that would resonate with our reality."

In a country where censorship and moral-policing are the norms, are we prepared for a film like this? Is it time to liberate artists from the contraptions of "Indian sensibilities" and our orthodox mindsets?

Imran takes out Kat for a scooter ride!

 

Imran Khan and Katrina Kaif have been spotted in South Avenue, Delhi, shooting for their film Mere Brother Ki Dulhan.

The duo has gone to the capital after shooting a number of retro sequences in Agra where they turned into the rock-n-roll loving hippies and Katrina was particularly have a whale of a time in retro get-up.

Now, they are shooting another sequence of the film in Delhi where Imran has been spotted driving a Bajaj Chetak scooter and Katrina sitting pillion. The two had shot similar sequences last year as well (check out the photos above and ahead).

Mere Brother Ki Dulhan, as the title suggests, has Katrina playing the bride-to-be of Imran Khan’s brother, played by Pakistani actor Ali Zafar. The film is being made under the banner of Yashraj Films and is directed by Ali Abbas Zafar. It’s slated to release in July this year.
