R Madhavan and Huma Qureshi to host National Awards

The 60th National Film Awards will be held at the Vigyan Bhawan in Delhi on May 3. Coincidentally, the day also marks Indian cinema’s centenary. And this year the event will be hosted by actor R Madhavan who excitedly tells us, “This is the first time that I have got the opportunity to host an
award function as prestigious as the National Awards. Some amazing films and artistes have been recognised this year and I am really looking forward to the evening.” Reportedly, actor Huma Qureshi will be co-hosting the show with him today.

The recipients for this year include names like Tigmanshu Dhulia for Paan Singh Tomaar in the Best Film category, Shoojit Sircar and John Abraham for Vicky Donor in the Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment category and Nawazuddin Siddiqui for his performance in Kahaani, Gangs of Wasseypur II, Dekh Indian Circus and Talaash in the Special Jury Award category.

This year actor-producer Javed Jaffery is bagging an award for the second time in a row. “We made Inshallah Football and it won the National Award last year. Then we made Inshallah Kashmir — a film on the Kashmir conflict.  Nobody makes films with an intention to win awards but, of course, winning the National Award for two consecutive years is a very happy feeling,” says Javed.
