"Actresses today want to work more in offbeat cinema": Irrfan Khan

Well, who wouldn’t be? With Kangana’s Queen, Deepika’s Piku, Anushka Sharma’s NH10 and Priyanka Chopra’s Quantico, Bollywood is raining with female talent!

And it’s great to have a male actor talk about it!

Irrfan Khan, whose newest release Talwar, opposite Konkana Sen, has become a huge hit, says: “Lots of actresses today want to work more in offbeat cinema. Deepika did it in ‘Piku’. Most actresses would say ‘This film does not have dancing or singing, then why should I do it?’ But see, Deepika is a top star and she did it beautifully. Actresses want to do performances…like Priyanka, who is doing an international TV show, where she only needs to act. Actresses are getting ambitious about doing great performances, which is a good sign.”

When asked about his upcoming film opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, he said: “In ‘Jazbaa’ I wasn’t looking for a challenge, I was looking for entertainment… I usually do films which urge people to think about and see something new. This film has a unique concept. Also, ‘Jazbaa’ is a ‘paisa vasool’ film. It is an edge of the seat thriller.”

And he has some wonderful things to say about Aish too: “She has a very larger-than-life image but she is very simple. She takes care of people around her and is unlike the big superstar image she has. She is very grounded.”

The film is supposedly her come-back film after a gap of 5 long years. But Irrfan says: “Comeback from where? For me she was always here. She didn’t go anywhere. An actor should be allowed a gap. Her audience is still with her. People are her fan, her admirers, and they’ll definitely go to watch her.”

Aww..
Well, all we can say is that we are glad that we live in a world where actresses are single-handedly rocking charts and lesser glamorous actors like Irrfan Khan and Nawazuddin Siddiqui are given more importance than mainstream actors!
