Having generated a phenomenon since its release on November 21, 2008 with a $373.3 million worldwide sales, "Twilight" got out to a great start on its DVD sales. Launched on Saturday, March 21, 2009, the DVD version of the vampire drama has been sold for more than 3 million on its first day only, as claimed by Summit Entertainment.
With the impressive bow, the movie starring Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson has been listed among the top five best first day DVD releases over the past two years. It joined other best-selling movies in DVD, like "Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End", "The Dark Knight", "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" and "Transformers".
"TWILIGHT at Midnight" event was thrown across the country by Summit Entertainment and retailers for this DVD release. Drawing big crowds, some saw surprise appearance by filmmaker and cast. Rachelle Lefevre who plays Victoria came up in Salt Lake City and Ashley Greene who plays Alice Cullen attended the Los Angeles event, while director Catherine Hardwicke showed up in Dallas. In addition to the three, Edi Gathegi and Nikki Reed have also met the fans in New York and Chicago respectively.
