MUMBAI - Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan talked about his coming up film ‘Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai’ in Mumbai.
He said, his character is loosely based on the criminal Haji Mastan Mirza, Devgan said he is like a modern-day Robin Hood.
“My character is the character of Sultan Mirza who is kind of a Robin Hood, who is anti-establishment but romantic also. He has a passion and sense of humour, also. It’s a very interesting character,” said Devgan.
Devgan also spoke about the controversy stirred up by Mastan’s widow and daughter and refused to comment on the matter.
“I think there was some confusion but that has been cleared. The issue is in the court, so I don’t want to comment on that but I feel that the person who has filed the case when they see the film, they will understand there is no such thing,” said Devgan.
The film is set in the 1970s, when smuggling of gold and other contraband items was on the rise. Mumbai-based Mastan used to be one of the main players in the smuggling of such goods.
The film has Ajay Devgan playing the character of smuggler and gangster, Haji Mastan, while Emraan Hashmi assays the role of underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim, a minor player at the times.
Directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Shobha and Ekta Kapoor, the film’s music has been composed by Pritam Chakraborty.
The movie is set for a worldwide release on Friday
