‘I’m working with both of them again'

Karan Johar is producing Short Term Shaadi with Imran Khan and Kareena Kapoor next year. “Imran brought the project to me, Shakun (director Shakun Batra) and Ayesha, who has developed the script with him, are mutual friends. I’m happy they thought of me,” says Johar.

johar is also doing a film with Ranbir Kapoor. Ayan Mukerji, director of Wake Up Sid!, is developing a script and Johar admits that Mukerji and Kapoor make for a great combo. But to bring Khan and Kapoor together, he has to come up with a screenplay that will ensure they have a good time on the sets.

According to Johar, both have grown as actors, moved from strength to strength with each film. Kapoor has the legacy of the Kapoors behind him. Khan entered the industry as Aamir Khan’s nephew. “But today Ranbir with his father and Imran with his uncle’s blessings have carved out their own identities. It’s nice to be working with them again,” Johar points out. “Ranbir is more than just Rishi Kapoor’s son. And Imran is no more just Aamir Khan’s nephew.”

‘Imran photographs like a dream’

Karan Johar: Imran is the quintessential good boy. He’s warm with his mother, good to his friends and absolutely wonderful with his fiancée, Avantika (Malik). Loyal and dependable, I used to think he could never do anything really naughty and lacked masti but that was until I saw him in I Hate Luv Storys. Karan Johar: As a person, I have a feeling that Ranbir holds back emotionally. One senses a reservoir of emotions within him, waiting to explode. And they do. What you don’t see in him as a person you get to see on screen and that’s what makes him such a superb actor.

Karan describes it as a “richer” hamper to the one in Season One, which had only “coffee things” and that in Season Two that got a little “techno friendly” with a Nokia phone. He adds that thanks to all the hype, over the three seasons going home with the hamper has become a “mild ego kick” for his guests and brings them “a certain subliminal happiness.”
