Salman Khan seems to have done it again and will end 2012 with a bangg. The just-released Dabangg 2,
co-starring Sonakshi Sinha and directed by Salman's brother Arbaaz,
looks set to be another blockbuster. Early figures place the film's
opening day collections between Rs 20 and 21 crores. While this is at
least Rs 10 crores below Ek Tha Tiger's bumper opening earnings of Rs 32 crores, it is significantly higher than 2010's blockbuster Dabangg which took in Rs 14.5 crores on day one.
Film trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted this morning: As per *early estimates* #Dabangg 2 Fri seems 20 cr to 21 cr nett. Biggest opener for non-holiday... Of course, the final total could vary.
Dabangg 2 1st day will be lower than #EkThaTiger 1st day [15 Aug holiday]. ETT Day 2 was much lower [14.55 cr], since it was a working day.
Released on December 21, Dabangg 2's figures make it the biggest non-holiday earner. Eka Tha Tiger released on August 15 and Agneepath, which held the opening day record before Ek Tha Tiger with Rs 22 crores, released on January 26. Before Dabangg 2, the highest opening figures for a non-holiday film were posted by Rowdy Rathore, starring Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha, which took in Rs 15 crores.
Taran Adarsh tweeted: Biggest opener [holiday] #EkThaTiger 32.92 cr ... Biggest opener [non-holiday] #RowdyRathore 15.1 cr ... #Dabangg2 is non-holiday opener.
Ek Tha Tiger, which fetched over Rs 200 crores and is the second highest-earning Bollywood film after Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots, was Salman's fourth-in-a-row blockbuster after Bodyguard, Ready and Dabangg, all of which earned Rs 100 crores plus.
