Ayesha Takia Azmi’s father-in-law and Samajwadi Party MLA Abu Azmi had his foot in the mouth when he supported Mohan Bhagwat’s statement that Western culture had ruined Indian culture and is responsible for the increasing atrocities on women. Azmi had also said that women should be refrained from wearing short clothes and moving about late in the night.
Coming to his defence, Ayesha Takia tweeted, “My father-in-law is the head of our family, we all love and respect him a lot. I have my own mindset which doesn’t have to match with everyone even when it’s some one I care for, love and respect deeply.”
Ayesha’s husband Farhan too apologised on his father’s behalf and said, ” “He made statements that were completely not him, he’s upset with himself and only I know how bad he’s feeling right now. Deep inside, he’s very sad. Whatever he said, it was politically wrong,” said Farhan.
Abu Azmi had said that young women who go out scantily dressed attract attention and face risks. “Such nudity must be banned. The censor board must not clear movies having explicit scenes which embarrass families watching them together,” he said.
