Shahrukh supports MARD campaign!

The moustache may be fake, the intention isn’t. As Shahrukh Khan twirls his mooch like a true-blue desi mard, he can take pride in being a man sensitive to women’s issues.

The superstar has lent his support to actor-director-singer Farhan Akhtar’s campaign ‘Men Against Rape and Discrimination’ (MARD).

Seen with the handlebar moustache traditionally associated with manliness, Shahrukh Khan is set to become the most outstanding face of the campaign against the rape and discrimination towards women.

A big event has been planned for the Eden Gardens IPL clash between Shahrukh’s Kolkata Knight Riders and Preity Zinta’s Kings XI Punjab on April 26. At the venue, Farhan Akhtar and his MARD team will reportedly distribute around 70,000 moustaches to the spectators and staff to create awareness towards women’s safety. Shahrukh Khan himself will sport the moustache.

Farhan Akhtar conceived the campaign in August last year after the horrific rape and murder of a Mumbai lawyer. The campaign became all the more pertinent following the brutal December 16 gang rape in Delhi. Farhan officially launched the campaign in March, 2013.

Shahrukh Khan has been at the forefront in expression his concern about gender equality. Recently, he went as far as announcing that his upcoming film Chennai Express will have the actresses’ names appearing before his in the credit roll.
