A few years ago, Bollywood went through a trend of adding colour to old Hindi film classics like ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ and ‘Naya Daur’. The new trend in Bollywood is to add a third dimension to old classics. The first film to fall prey to 3D conversion is the inimitable ‘Sholay’.
‘Sholay’ had first released on 15 August, 1975. After a slow start, word-of-mouth eventually brought great fortune to the multi-starrer. With actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra, Hema Malini, Amjad Khan and Sanjeev Kumar in immortal roles, director Ramesh Sippy gave India a huge hit.
Now as the 3D conversion of the film nears completion, a first look of ‘Sholay 3D’ will be launched on 15 August, 2013, exactly 38 years since the day of its original release.
The presenter of the film Jayanti Lal Gada says, “August 15, 1975 holds a special significance in our life.”
‘Sholay 3D’ will release on 13 September, 2013. In the 100th year of Indian cinema, it’ll be good to watch one of India’s greatest films on the big screen again, albeit in 3D.
