Film stars Kajol and Ajay Devgn have filed a complaint of theft of gold bangles from their Juhu bungalow and have told cops they suspect the involvement of an insider.
The theft was discovered on October 22 when Kajol was getting ready for Karvachauth. The police complaint filed at the Juhu police station on Wednesday reported 17 bangles worth nearly Rs 5 lakh missing. While both Ajay and Kajol remained unavailable for comment on Thursday, Kajol's mother, yesteryear actress Tanuja, confirmed the theft. "Yes, it is true that Kajol's bangles were stolen. But I do not know the details as I was out of town and have just come back," she said.
This is the second theft reported at the mansion, called the Devgn House. In the first theft in 2008, a member of the family's domestic staff was involved and he was eventually arrested from Chhattisgarh. According to the complaint filed on Wednesday, Kajol realised that her wardrobe had been broken into when she found a jewellery box half open and its contents haphazardly arranged.
A closer inspection revealed that 17 bangles were missing. Some of these bangles were gifts from Ajay and held great sentimental value for her. "It really ruined her Karvachauth," said a source close to the family.
Since Kajol had last used some articles from the jewellery box on October 15,cops are questioning domestic staff who had access to her room in the following week. Juhu police station in-charge Senior Inspector Arun Bhagat said a few people have been questioned in connection with the theft. "Investigations are on and we are pursuing some leads," he said.
