Since the controversy erupted, Adani Electricity Mumbai has issued multiple press releases explaining why electricity bills are higher than usual.
The controversy over unusually high electricity bills in Mumbai seems far from over.
Taking to his Twitter account, he wrote- "People please buy my paintings, I need to pay my Adani electric bill, kidneys am keeping for the next bill." (sic) But this isn't the first time he has complained about it. A few days back, when Huma Qureshi also did the same, Warsi had this to tweet
On Sunday, actor Arshad Warsi took to Twitter to complain about his electricity bill and called Gautam Adani a highway-robber. Adani Electricity responded to his tweet and said that his grievance will be resolved as long he does not make personal comments about the proprietor.
"This is my electricity bill from the highway robbers called ADANI, who is having a good laugh at our cost. UPDATE: INR 1,03,564.00 debited from A/c on 05-JUL-20.." Arshad Warsi's tweet at 7.50 AM on July 5 said.
Adani Electricity responded at around 11 AM. It said in the first tweet, "We can understand your concern on the billing issue and are here to help you, but we do not appreciate the personal defamatory remarks and advise you to practice caution."
This was followed by a second tweet saying, "'We will help you understand your consumption and demand that you should delete the tweet with the defamatory remarks. Request you to share your account no with us."
Both Arshad Warsi and Adani Electricity deleted their respective tweets later in the day.
Since the controversy erupted, Adani Electricity Mumbai has issued multiple press releases explaining why electricity bills are higher than usual. It even introduced easy EMI options for the customers. The group said in one of the press releases that it has set up 25 helpdesks and 8 customer care centres across Mumbai to look after the issue.
Adani Electricity has also stated that electricity reading was not taken for three months and an average bill was sent to customers in Mumbai. It has gone further to claim that most people were at home during the lockdown resulting in increased electricity consumption.
Arshad Warsi is not the first celebrity to have spoken out in this regard. Earlier, actor Taapsee Pannu had also taken to social media to point out her unusually high electricity bill.
