Madhuri was awarded with the platinum diva award, while Sushmita on the other hand took away the woman entrepreneur award for successfully running her organization –I AM SHE, at the Planman Media’s Powerbrands Hall of Fame awards held at Kingdom of Dreams recently.

“I am very proud and honoured after receiving the award. It reiterates the fact that people still look at me with integrity. I have come here with a lot of hard work,” said Madhuri Dixit. She was accompanied by husband Sriram Nene.

Sushmita Sen said: “It has been a journey for me. I won Miss Universe in 1994, got to do my first film ‘Dastak’ in 1996 and now I receive this woman entrepreneur award for I AM SHE, which I opened two years ago.”

The awards for rising star female and rising star male went to actors Parineeti Chopra and Prateik Babbar, respectively.

“It feels really good that I have been getting so many awards. I promise to keep working harder and I hope to keep everybody happy,” she added.

Bipasha in the horror flick 'Aatma'!

Talk about the dichotomy between reel and real. Bipasha Basu who humbly admits to being a scaredy cat has signed a new spooky flick titled Aatma.

For an actress who once admitted to sleeping with lights on, the lead role in a horror movie isn’t exactly a walk in the park, yet Bipasha Basu has given nod to the fourth horror flick of her career. Raaz in 2002 was a milestone at the very start of her acting career, even though the 2004 flick Rakht was a damp squib.

Presently working in Raaz 3 with Emraan Hashmi, Bipasha Basu concedes that even her friends are surprised that she ends up signing horror flicks despite unable to herself watch one without covering her eyes with her hands.

In Aatma, her fourth horror film, Bipasha Basu plays a woman who encounters a spirit. The film, directed by Suparn Verma and produced by Kumar Mangat, will reportedly have a mind-boggling twist in the climax, and that’s the reason why only Bipasha, Suparn Verma and Kumar Mangat have the full script with them; the rest of the crew has been given the script sans the final ten pages.

“That's from the pre-climax onwards, because the major suspense which brings a twist in the tale. When you see the film, you'll be spooked out just as I was when I heard the script,” Bipasha Basu is quoted as saying in a media report.

To lend realism to the film, Aatma is being shot on the 21st floor of an Andheri building.

Saif doesn’t want Kareena to convert to Islam

Well, looks like the time has come to formulate new customs. Kareena Kapoor, who is all set to tie the nuptial with beau Saif Ali Khan in October, will not follow in the footsteps of her to-be-mother-in-law Sharmila Tagore.

Tagore, a Hindu Bengali had converted to Islam to get married to Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. But the Kapoor girl will not change her religion.

Even Saif doesn’t believe in the tradition of embracing a new religion to get married in case of an inter-religion marriage.

Talking to a reputed media house, Saif said, “I would never want her (Kareena) to change her religion. That is the trouble with religion really... it expects conversion. I don`t buy or believe that. I think it`s good that the government, too, has - unless I`m misinformed about the law amended to include it in the Special Marriage Act. If and when we do get married, no one has to change his or her religion.”

Saif’s mother Sharmila changed her name to Ayesha Begum post marriage and even his first wife, actress Amrita Singh, who was sikh had converted her religion to Islam. But Kareena would not be doing so.

Big B's number 786 mystery revealed!

Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who has been very active on Twitter, marked his 786th day on the social networking site. He reveals the mystery behind the number 786, since it's been a lucky number to him.

Recalling his Coolie and Deewar days, the Big B tweeted, "T 786 - In Deewar the 786 Billa in his coat pocket saved him when he was shot at .. when it dropped out in the climax, he was shot and died."

The number 786 is associated with Islam, as a substitution for the phrase 'bismillah ir-rahman ir-rahim' (in the name of Allah, the compassionate, the merciful). "T 786 - The Muslim brothers and sisters when they write on paper always write 786 on top as an auspicious beginning .. more on ‪#T786," Amitabh tweets. "T 786 - ‪#T786‬ Bismillah ir Rahman nir Rahim...In the Name of Allah the Most Merciful the Most Kind... the significance of the number."

Several Bollywood films are closely associated with this special number. If we remember, Shahrukh Khan's character Veer Pratap Singh in Veer Zara also bore the prisoner number 786. In fact, in the movie Once Upon a Time In Mumbaai, Ajay Devgn's car's registration number was also 786.

Talking about the electric blast incident at Mehboob Studio which injured three crew members, the actor added,"Those 3 are much better."

Katrina Kaif returns in ‘Raajneeti 2’

The actresses of our film industry are rooting for women-oriented films, thanks to Vidya Balan and her lucky stint with flicks like The Dirty Picture and Kahaani. Now, get ready to see Katrina Kaif in a woman-centric film. The actress has been finalized for Raajneeti 2, in which she will be seen in a central role, and this time there will be no Ranbir Kapoor to steal her thunder.

Prakash Jha is going ahead with the sequel of Raajneeti, a 2010 hit film. The filmmaker is quoted as saying, “It is very challenging to take the Raajneeti story forward. Most of the main characters are dead. Two-thirds of the characters will be completely new. Katrina (Kaif) will have a central role.”

Surprisingly, Ranbir Kapoor, who played the key role in the first part, is no more part of the sequel. So, don’t expect to see the repeat of Ranbir-Katrina chemistry in the second part. The sequel of Raajneeti will again be a spin on the Mahabharat, but this time, it will be completely different, claims Prakash Jha.

For the original, Katrina Kaif not only brushed up her Hindi but also tried to get rid of her heavily anglicized accent. Kat did manage to pull off lengthy Hindi dialogues and gave her best performance in the film. Prakash Jha was very happy with the actress’ effort, and wished to work with her again.

But, why is Ranbir Kapoor not in the film? It’s heard that he doesn’t want to play sidekick to his alleged ex-girlfriend Katrina Kaif.

Katrina Kaif is the current flavor among the filmmakers. She has signed all big films with the three major Khans, and is in demand.

It's official: Tamnnaah Bhatia is doing Sridevi's role in Himmatwala

It’s official. And we got it out of Ajay Devgn’s business associate Kumar Mangat. After the unending speculation about who would be taking over Sridevi’s role in the remake of the 1983 hit Himmatwala, fuelled in no small measure by the neo-Himmatwala’s director Sajid Khan tightlipped silence, it is finally out

Telugu and Tamil actress Tamannaah Bhatia would be playing the lead opposite Ajay in Himmatwala.

Says Kumar Mangat, “Yes, it’s Tamannaah opposite Ajay in Himmatwala. The shooting starts in August. Ajay has Bol Bachchan on release and Son Of Sardar is almost complete. Himmatwala is the only other project he will start this year.”

Significantly names like Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma were bandied for the part of the whipwielding firebrand that catapulted Sridevi to stardom in Himmatwala in 1983.

Says a source close to the project, “Katrina and Anushka turned down the role. It was then that Ajay felt a Southern actress would fit the bill. He recalled to his director Sajid Khan and producer Vashu Bhagnani how Sridevi too had emerged from Tamil-Telugu cinema for Himmatwala. Besides, Ajay has lately delivered a big hit with another Tamil-Telugu actress Kajal Aggarwal in Singham.”

We also hear that Tamannaah’s role in the new Himmatwala would part radically from the original.

Says the source, “Sridevi in tight-fitting trousers and leather jacket with a whip in hand wouldn’t work now. This firebrand opposite Ajay would a wield a gun. Nainon mein sapna from the original would be there. But it would be shot completely differently on Ajay and Tamannah.”

Initerestingly we are told Ajay sees sparks of Kajol in the way Tamannaah would be presented in Himmatwala.

There are some interesting similarities between Sridevi and Tamannaah. Both are Tamil-Telugu actress making a bid to bombard Bollywood. Sridevi made a failed attempt in Solva Sawan before hitting big-time with Himmatwala. Tamannaah too has a flop Hindi film Chand Sa Roshan Chehra to her discredit.

“Tamannaah has already started working on her body language for Himmatwala. Unlike Sri who couldn’t speak Hindi when she did Himmatwala and had her voice dubbed, Tamannah speaks fluent Hindi. She’s a Sindhi gone South.”

Other Southern sirens on the way to Bollywood: Ileana d’Cruz in Barfi, Taapsee Pannu in Chashme Buddoor, Samantha Ruth Prabhu in Assi Nabbe Sau.

Gangs of Wasseypur “a glorious film”:Big B

Hailing it as a glorious film, Amitabh Bachchan was so impressed by Gangs of Wasseypur that in reviewing the movie on his blog he recommended it strongly.

Impressed with the "stark" and "painfully real" portrayal of gang war in Gangs of Wasseypur, Amitabh Bachchan feels that director Anurag Kashyup has allowed the visuals to flow as they would and says he would "strongly" recommend it.

Based on a true story by Zeishan Quadri, the film is set in Wasseypur, Jharkhand, known for gang war between between gangster Faheem Khan and businessman Sabir Alam over a scrap business.

It ran houseful in most parts when it opened Friday and footfalls are said to be increasing.

"Quite undoubtedly the moment of the day has been the film 'Gangs of Wasseypur' (GOW), which I have had the great privilege to see. Indian Cinema at its best, honest, stark and as painfully real as possible.

"For one that has been born and lived a major portion of his life in almost similar environment, or at least exposed to it to some degree, I found so much that I could well relate to. And that has led to the authenticity...," Big B wrote on his blog,, praising the crime thriller.

"Anurag Kashyap has not done any fancy shot taking and allowed the visuals to flow as they would, were one to be living those circumstances in real time," he wrote.

The film is soaked in blood and revenge and has stellar performances by Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Richa Chadha and Piyush Mishra.

The 69-year-old also praised the work of Manoj. They worked together in "Aks" and "Aarakshan".

Amitabh wrote: "Manoj Bajpayee in particular, and of all the artists right down to the smallest in capacity and presence, has been beautifully done. No one looked or performed out of place. They just did enough and that was effective enough."

"Importantly though, the film GOW touched and expanded on a topic that apart from the blood and gore and the violence educated us on a social issue which most of us may never have heard of. The disparities yes, on more social and moral levels, but also on a factor that concerns religion and the evil that exists within most of the polity even now about it.

"In all a glorious film and one that I would recommend strongly," he wrote.

Spotted: Neil, Sonal dressed alike

Actions do speak louder than words. Neil Nitin Mukesh and Sonal Chauhan may shout from the rooftops that they are only ‘good friends’, yet are seen cuddling at various spots.

Well, the couple was spotted recently at the Mumbai Airport holding hands. They were even dressed identically, a la Madhuri Dixit and hubby Nene, in red checked shirt and blue denims.

Aamir Khan’s biography ‘I’ll Do It My Way’ released

But it is not the actor-filmmaker’s personal biography, says author Christina Daniels

Actor-filmmaker and Satyamev Jayate host Aamir Khan‘s much-talked about biography I’ll Do It My Way finally released on June 24. It is authored by Bangalore-based writer, photographer and film critic Christina Daniels and brought into the market by Om Publishers. According to the author, the book is not a personal or cinematic biography of the Bollywood superstar, but a look at 21 landmark films of his including Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak, Dil, 1947 Earth, Dil Chahta Hai and Lagaan.

Christina worked on the book for three years, interviewing Aamir’s directors, producers and co-stars including Mansoor Khan, Aditya Bhattacharya, Asif Noor, Indra Kumar, Mahesh Bhatt, Dharmesh Darshan, Nandita Das, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, Ronnie Screwvala, AR Murugadoss, Asin Thottumkal, Vidhu Vinod Chopra and Rajkumar Hirani. It was only after the writer was done with 80 percent of the draft that she met the actor and discussed the book with him. Apparently, Aamir was not impressed. And evidently, he has not endorsed the book and that explains the low-key release. In fact, Aamir had expressed the desire to write his autobiography sometime soon. We sure are waiting for that one.

Meanwhile, I’ll Do It My Way has been priced at Rs 495/-. We shall try and get our hands on it and let you know if it’s worth going in for!

SRK loves Gauri for her ‘Patience’

Patience is virtue, the expression seems to be best understood by none other than Shahrukh Khan who recently praised his wife Gauri for this virtue and standing by him amidst Bollywood gossips.

The couple who got married in 1991 is enjoying the status of being most stable jodi's in B-town and they have every valid reason for that. Shahrukh has all praise his Biwi while responding to a fan tweet. When a fan posted a question to him on twitter: “What is the favorite quality which your wife has, which you wish you had?” the star instantly replied, “Patience.”

The star managed to wade through number of rumors due to her virtue, specially the recent one where he was rumored for getting closer to Priyanka Chopra and affecting his personal life. However, it was Gauri who stood by him and got cozy with Priyanka also, settling things forever.

Despite number of rumors were spread about their growing relationship, it was Gauri who had shown her utmost patience in tackling such rumors and standing by him. The controversies died down after Priyanka put an end to ongoing speculations in Karan’s B’day bash and was seen having gala time.

But here also, it was again Gauri who took initiative and spoke to her reflecting her positive side and her confidence in her beau.

In stressful Bollywood life where numbers of rumors surround one’s husband’s life, one certainly requires patience to deal such situation. Wishing them all the best for their unshakable faith!

Salman and Katrina on 'Ek Tha Tiger' New poster

Kabir Khan’s directorial comeback packs a punch

Yash Raj Films’ Eid attraction, Ek Tha Tiger has been in the news ever since it was announced and the main reason is that Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif have been paired together after a long time.

The teaser trailer of Kabir Khan’s directorial venture featured only Salman, but fascinated his fans all over the globe. Just when we were beginning to wonder why Katrina was left out, the makers released a poster that featured Kat with the punch line, ‘The girl who tamed Tiger’. We were eagerly waiting for a trailer that featured both Sallu and the Chikni Chameli babe when a new poster of the film caught our attention.

Unfortunately for us, this one was a total let down. We were sad to see the unimaginative poster that was just a rehash of two older posters. While those featured the stars separately, this one simply cropped and merged them together in an uninspiring image. We just hope that the theatrical trailer expected this Friday is better put together and actually has something new to offer.
Salman and Katrina appear on first 'Ek Tha Tiger' poster. Do you LIKE?

Shahrukh-Kat’s passionate moments in Yashraj Films’ untitled project!

Shahrukh Khan and Katrina Kaif recently shot for an intense romantic scene in London for Yashraj Films’ untitled project. it was an outdoor scene, in a lane in London.

Now when SRK is in a romantic film, such scenes ought to be present. You can call it a typical SRK flick.

From the still, one can see the deep passion in Shahruks eyes, while he stares at Katrina, while Katrina resists an eye contact.
The chemistry between the two, looks wonderful.

The film also has Anushka Sharma.

We wonder what the film will be titled.

Sonam Kapoor and Dhanush in romantic film 'Raanjhnaa' : First Look

Here is the first look of Sonam Kapoor and ‘Kolaveri Di’ sensation Dhanush in director Aanand L Rai films ‘Raanjhnaa’.

The film is a romantic one, having Sonam play the role of a middle-class girl from Delhi’s Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU).
Dhanush is from Varanasi playing a Brahmin boy.

Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan’s baby Aaradhya’s face revealed!

We finally got a glimpse of Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan’s daughter, Aaradhya. Don’t miss the video.

Okay, that’s a misleading headline. It’s just an eye, actually, but it is perhaps the first publicly available photograph of the infant we all knew as Beti B before she finally got her name

All Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s attempts at hiding her baby Aaradhya’s face have unfortunately failed. A news channel has managed to get a glimpse of the toddler’s eye. Yes, just one eye, and a part of a baby-soft forehead. But they are touting it as the first available-to-the-public photo of Aaradhya! Take a look at the image above and tell us if it isn’t a crazy thing to do. We were surfing when this grab from the news channel’s video caught our eye.

Frankly, we think it is a gross invasion of Aishwarya and Aaradhya’s privacy. So what if she is just a baby? That doesn’t give anybody the right to barge into Ash’s personal space with a video cam, angle it over her shoulder and zoom in on Aaradhya’s little face! Show some respect, people.

t’s true that we can’t wait to catch a glimpse of Aaradhya either, but if the Bachchans want to take their time releasing official pictures of the baby, then there’s nothing we can do but wait. And it would be good manners to do just that. Violating someone’s privacy to feed public frenzy should be a strict no-no. We sympathise with Aaradhya. Poor baby. What has she done to deserve this kind of incessant intrusion into her personal space? Can you imagine how scary it must be for her? And if this is the kind of media scrutiny she’ll be subjected to in the coming years, it’s going to be a painful life for her.

But having said that, we must admit that we cannot resist showing you the image we are talking about. After all, that is a really sweet little eye, round, large, curious, wondering what people are making such a fuss about. Now let’s leave mum and baby alone, shall we?

I just got lucky: Shah Rukh Khan on 20 years in Bollywood

On this day two decades ago a new Hindi film superstar emerged: Bollywood's all-time favourite romantic hero Shah Rukh Khan, who debuted with "Deewana". On completing 20 years, SRK says he just "got lucky" and admits he has made mistakes all along.

"Twenty uninterrupted years of serving. Not enough talent or looks or game plan. Thank you all. I guess I got lucky, lucky to be working all the time," tweeted Shah Rukh, who entered filmdom with "Deewana", which released June 25, 1992.

Superstardom, disappointment and controversies - Delhi guy SRK has seen it all in his celebrityhood. For Shah Rukh, it's been two decades in Bollywood, but his tryst with showbiz began in 1988, the year he started his journey with TV series "Fauji", after being trained at The Barry John's Acting Studio. Next year he featured in another successful show "Circus" and "Doosra Keval".

If people loved his act on small screen, he won hearts as a crazy lover in "Deewana", in which he was competing with none other than Rishi Kapoor in the lead role. But lady luck was smiling on him and audiences loved his chemistry with late Divya Bharti. The song "Aisi deewangi dekhi nahin kabhi" picturised on them became a chartbuster.

"Deewana" turned out to be a huge hit at the box office, and won SRK a Filmfare best male debut award. There was no looking back thereafter - only more films, more hits, and more awards for Shah Rukh. His success earned him titles like - King Khan and Bollywood Badshah.

He redefined the romantic hero in Hindi cinema with films like "Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge", "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai", "Mohabbatein", "Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna", "Kal Ho Na Ho" and "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi".

His work profile is eclectic - he has played an obsessive lover in films like "Darr" and "Anjaam", a villain in "Baazigar", a warrior in "Asoka", a modern day patriot in "Swades", a superstar in "Om Shanti Om", a don in "Don: The Chase Continues" and "Don 2: The King Is Back", and a superhero in his mega-production "Ra.One".

At the peak of his career he choose to go back to his roots - TV - in 2007 to host the third season of game show "Kaun Banega Crorepati". He also hosted "Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain" (2008). He was last seen on small screen as the host of "Zor Ka Jhatka" in 2011.

After making it big in showbiz, he turned businessman by launching his production house Red Chillies Entertainment and later by investing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), whose victory at the fifth IPL season was a silver lining for the star this year as lately, he has been a part of controversies.

He got embroiled in a brawl with director Shirish Kunder and has been banned from entering Mumbai's Wankhede Stadium for five years over his alleged misbehaviour with security personnel and MCA officials. But later he admitted his mistake and apologised too.

"Made mistakes, still continue to do so. A little madness. A bit of solitude. Too silly to realise it's impossible and maybe that's why it gets achieved. Mom said to only feel and say positive things. 'Your Farishtey (angels) are always listening and fulfil your words.' My Farishtey work overtime," wrote the 45-year-old.

Now, one of the most lovable Bollywood actor is set to return to his lovey-dovey avatar with Yash Chopra's next directorial venture. He will be seen romancing Katrina Kaif in it.

No 'Koffee With Karan' this year

Filmmaker Karan Johar says the next season of "Koffee With Karan" will happen only next year.

Asked if viewers will get to catch up with the spice on Bollywood stars' lives through the show this year, Johar said: "Next year only!"

For now, Johar's hands are full as he is busy with his next directorial "Student Of The Year" and his latest small screen engagement -- "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5". He is judging a reality show for the first time.

Shahid and Katrina in Prabhu’s next movie in Namak

The cute pair of Shahid Kapoor and Katrina Kaif will be seen in choreographer turned Director Prabhu Deva’s next film ‘Namak’, which is said to be an action packed flick.
However, Shahid Kapoor is been officially roped in the film, but looks like the makers had as well decided their female lead actress.

If all goes well, Katrina Kaif, who is ready and excited to star in Prabhu Deva's next Namak, will apparently enact the romantic lead opposite Shahid Kapoor.

Twice before they were almost finalized as lead pair but it did not happen. But if all goes well they may come on ‘Namak’.

Namak also marks the coming together of Katrina and Prabhudheva for the first time. While the two of them got acquainted on the sets of Prabhudheva's Hindi directorial debut ‘Wanted’ that starred the actress' ex Salman Khan whom she would visit on sets, they never got the opportunity to work together.

As of now the actress is busy with the projects namely, “Ek Tha Tiger”opposite her ex-boyfriend Salman khan, Yash Chopra’s untitled venture opposite SRK while will also be seen in action packed third installment of Dhoom opposite Aamir Khan.

It will be exciting to witness Kat and Shahid for the first time on silver screen. Moreover, after “Kaminey” it will be Kapoor’s second action flick which will have entirely diverse combat sequels.

Emraan – Vidya to romance in Mumbai monsoon!

‘Ghanchakkar’ starring Vidya Balan and Emraan Hashmi, has been preponed by a month. The director of the film, Rajkumar Gupta, is presently on top of the world as his wish of capturing the two actors romancing in the Mumbai monsoon, finally comes true..

Initially, due to Emraan’s time constraints, the shooting was supposed to begin in September.

Gupta narrated: “I had originally planned an August schedule. And Vidya, who is at the moment doing no other film, was completely one with my film’s schedule. But Emraan was busy promoting Raaz 3 in August as the film was supposed to release at the end of August.”

“But now I believe ‘Raaz 3′ has been pushed forward, so I got the window to shoot the scenes that I wanted. I guess I am just lucky

The whole idea is to capture Vidya and Emraan with secret cameras, on the rain-soaked streets of Mumbai. However, this requires a lot of courage.

“I agree. But both are used to shooting in the crowded outdoors. If Vidya could brave the Kolkata crowds in Kahaani and the Delhi crowd in my film No One Killed Jessica, then Mumbai would be a cakewalk in comparison.”

“The important thing is god has been generous. Thanks to Emraan’s reshuffled appointment diary, I’m able to shoot as and when I had originally planned,” he said.

The film is most likely to release in the first quarter of 2013.

"Aaradhya looks like a bit of Aishwarya and a bit of Abhishek. She`s a tall girl. Aaradhya is not intimidated to faces. She is beautiful. I call her 'Strawberry' because when she was born she reminded me of a strawberry. She is always smiling. Touchwood. Now she`s trying to crawl and it`s special to us."
Praising her daughter in law, Jaya added, "Aishwarya is a hands on mom. She is sometimes overcautious.  Sometimes I tease Aishwarya and I say, well, Aaradhya is a very lucky girl because can you imagine having a nurse like Miss World Aishwarya! I would also like her to start going out but she is absolutely, totally hands down and doesn`t depend on anybody which I think is great."

Kangna to match steps with Madhuri Dixit in 'Dedh Ishqiya'

Director Abhishek Choubey is said to have asked actress Kangna Ranaut to brush up her dancing skills as they gear up to start shooting for "Dedh Ishqiya" with dancing diva Madhuri Dixit. Both the actresses will be seen matching steps in plenty of dance sequences in the film.

"Dedh Ishqiya" is the sequel to 2010 film "Ishqiya", which featured Arshad Warsi, Naseeruddin Shah and Vidya Balan. While Naseer and Arshad will be reprising their roles, the female lead will be played by Madhuri.

"Music was very important to 'Ishqiya' and so it will remain in 'Dedh Ishqiya', though this time the songs and music would be very different. Yes, Madhuri would be doing a lot of singing and dancing," said Choubey.

The sequel will see Arshad and Naseer moving from Gorakhpur to Lucknow, where they will meet a highly cultured Muslim family, including Madhuri and Kangna. While Naseer will be seen romancing Madhuri, Arshad has been cast opposite Kangna.

Choubey said the idea was to place Naseer and Arshad's characters in a completely different milieu

"Repetition is death for me. I was against doing a sequel in the first place, because no matter how one looks at it, a sequel is an extension of the first film. But then when I finally decided on doing 'Dedh Ishqiya', I decided to put the characters in a totally different ambience," he said.

With the film, Choubey hopes to revive the near-extinct genre of Indian cinema, known as the Muslim social.

"I want to revive that old-world Nawabi charm of ornate architecture, the tehzeeb and the adaas that we saw in Muslim socials like 'Mere Mehboob', 'Mere Huzoor', 'Chaudhvin Ka Chand' and 'Nikaah'," said the director.

"Of course, the genre would be contemporized. But the essence of the genre, the flavour of the period, its essence and grace and, most important, the decadence of that Nawabi culture would remain," he added.

Ajay Devgn in Himmatwala remake

He is known for playing intense roles, but now Ajay Devgn is ready to imitate Bollywood's "Jumping Jack" Jitendra's dance moves in his new film "Himmatwala", which is based on the 1983 film of the same name.

"I am ready to do anything, be it action or dance... You can't look at one department, it is a film in totality... I am looking at the whole film right now," Ajay told reporters Wednesday.

Said Sajid Khan, director of the new version of "Himmatwala": "Ajay's image is action and intense oriented, but for me, he is a complete hero. He can do anything. Our film is not a take off on 'Himmatwala'. It's not a spoofy film.

"It is based on 1983 film 'Himmatwala' and it is my version of 'Himmatwala'. You will get to see many things which were not there in 'Himmatwala'. Actually, they are two different stories. We have taken rights officially for the film and for the two songs."

Directed by Telugu filmmaker K. Raghvedra, Jeetendra and Sridevi-starrer "Himmatwala" was a super hit film of 1983.

Sajid says Jeetendra may do a guest appearance in his film. "I will ask Jeetu-ji to do a cameo in the film. For Ajay, it is like homecoming because his dad did action for 'Himmatwala'. This time around the action will be completely new and different."

Ajay said: "I am asking him (Jeetendra) to do that cameo. I don't know if he would do that or not."

To be co-produced by Vashu Baghnani and UTV Motion Pictures, the film's leading lady is not yet finalised.

Saif will play Jawaharlal Nehru?

If all goes well, actor Saif Ali Khan will be seen play Jawaharlal Nehru
in Britain-based Indian filmmaker, Gurinder Chadha’s partition film. The film will be shot in Delhi and Jodhpur.

“I’ve already acquired the necessary permission to shoot everywhere in India including Rashtrapati Bhavan. So I am all set. I don’t have to shoot in Pakistan at all. This would be my ultimate dream project and I can’t wait for it to take off,” she said.

It is heard that the filmmaker has already spoke to Naseeruddin Shah to play Muhammad Ali Jinnah and that he is ready for the role.

“This is my biggest challenge to date. I’ve been working on my partition film for some time now. The central character is Lord Mountbatten. The movie is set in January 1947 when Mountbatten was asked to oversee India and the movie ends in August 1947, so it’s a brief time span”.

“But (it is) a huge canvas requiring tonnes and tonnes of research and scores of characters. I’ve spoken to some people including Naseer and Saif. Nehru’s role is a cameo, so I wonder if Saif would be willing to do it,” she said on phone from London.

If news is to be believed, Hollywood biggies Colin Firth or Michael Fassbender will be roped in to play the film’s central figure Lord Mountbatten.

The film will go on floor this October.

Movie Review - 'Gangs Of Wasseypur' is not to be missed

Cast: Manoj Bajpai, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Richa Chadda, Reemma Sen, Piyush Mishra, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi

Directed by Anurag Kashyap

Rating: ***

One of the reasons why Slumdog Millionaire was a global explosion was because it meticulously recorded and reported on the underbelly of Mumbai in a way that you could not just see but also experience the proceedings on the screen. This doesn’t mean that when you go to watch ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, the usher would come and stab you silly or the popcorn vendor would hold a bucket to your chest to buffer the sound of a pointblank fire. But what you see and hear will surely make you a happy hostage, willing to surrender to Wasseypur: a land where ‘kabootars’ multitask and uprooting rail tracks to loot carriages is hardly a task.

Firstly, here’s what you shouldn’t expect from this film. If your neighbour/ friend/ colleague/ driver told you that this film is based on the coal mafia, he/she didn’t know any better. The central characters are engaged in ‘koylay ki dalaali’ but their ‘mooh kaala’ happens for multiple reasons. Secondly, if you’re expecting a fast-paced thriller where people are on the run and all your predictions for upcoming scenes are turned over their head, this is not a film for you. Here, we have a unique specimen, one that is slow and slick. Characters are introduced at a leisurely pace and much time is consumed in setting the mood and environment. Even the people are sliced and diced skillfully like a Sous-chef manicuring a carrot. One could say that the film invests so much time to establish the place and the people that it leaves little time to tell a story. But then in a character-driven movie, it makes sense to give each person due footage to minutely demonstrate their traits and maaro dialogues that make them memorable by the end of the film. “Mooh se taar ghusake gaand se nikalke patang nahin udaayi toh humara naam nahin!”

While the story is too long and tiring to narrate, just defining the lead cast will fill up this page. Sardar Khan (Manoj Bajpai) has a one-point agenda: avenge his father’s death from coal mine owner-turned-politician Vidhayak Ramadhir Singh (Tigmanshu Dhulia). Circumstances lead Khan to a dual life. In one, he is married to Najma (Richa Chadda) and has three sons and in the other, he is seduced by Durga’s (Reemma Sen) sexy back to have another son from her. He also has two sidekicks, the forever grumpy Farhan (Piyush Mishra) and the Rajkumar Hirani-lookalike Asgar Khan (Jameel Khan). Through most of the film, Sardar is either battling Ramadhir Singh or the Quereshis who had driven him out of Wasseypur initially. The story takes a romantic turn after a giant time leap. Sardar’s sons grow up to pursue their respective love interests, leading to some priceless comic scenes. The film concludes with a predictable climax and if you were awake through most of the film, you can guess the end atleast 15 minutes before the closing credits.

Scenes that make this film paisa vasool: The one where Sardar Khan goes to eliminate this ‘pehelwan’. Just after the first stab, he takes a hurried step back- like he’s about to flee. But just as his adversary realizes what has happened, phuchchak- the second stab and again a step back. This goes on for about 150 stabs until the opponent can’t be punctured any further. This scene is not special for the grotesque number of jabs but for its novel style. Another one would be the scene where Sardar’s son Faizal (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) attempts to make a move on his lady love Mohsina (Huma Qureshi). The high point of the scene is when Mohsina blasts Faizal for holding her hand without her permission and Faizal chokes and sniffs almost like he would break into an inconsolable sob.

Although the film rests largely on Manoj Bajpai’s overconfident shoulders, the fact that he doesn’t manage to spectacularly impress isn’t a game changer. Tigmanshu Dhulia, on the other hand, manages very well with his contained and controlled expressions that say a lot more than he does in the film. Among the actresses, Richa Chadda pretty much rules and has a promising career ahead. Reemma Sen may have an extra ‘M’ but that doesn’t add much to her acting skills and most would appreciate her sexy back which has more screen space than her front. Nawazuddin Siddiqui is the new ‘common man’ in Hindi films and given his choice of arty and independent films, he won’t be reduced to a Rajpal Yadav. Piyush Mishra’s narrative is comforting especially when you’re tired of keeping track of why X wants to kill Y or why Z is befriending W. A neat voiceover summarizes events and lets you sit back and pay a little less attention.

Most songs deliciously capture the spirit of the movie. But unlike the songs that you get addicted to based on how they’ve been used in the film, the ‘Hunter song’ sounds best on your iPod and the visuals do little justice to the melody. ‘Jiya Tu Bihar Ke Lala’ sung by the Manoj Tiwari blends well with the closing shot of the film and adds to the mood.

Bihar and the states that have sprouted from within it make for a brilliant canvas for cinema. The language, the peculiar and untranslatable expletives and the misplaced sense of power allows for behavior that would raise eyebrows in polite society. ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ manages to use this to their advantage to terrorize, titillate and create cinematic icons who will dictate how any actor would approach an anti-hero character in the future. And it manages all this based on a simple philosophy: Ain’t no sunshine when… you’re on the wrong side of a loaded gun.

Considering the amount of blood spilled in this film, it could’ve just been called ‘Gangs of Sauce-e-pur’. Hot and sweet and different. ‘Bata deejiyega sabko!’

Movie Review - Teri Meri Kahaani is just a regular rom-com

Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Prachi Desai, Neha Sharma

Directed by Kunal Kohli

Rating: 1/2 *

Cracking of knuckles, the Angry Birds background score and pure and pleasant snoring are sounds that one can be greeted with while watching ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’. These are, of course, sounds produced by the audience and aren’t a part of the movie.  And while looking at the screen is the primary job in a movie hall, what Kunal Kohli offers us this week makes this the hardest and most ungrateful job ever. It would be easy to pick 100 reasons but one of the popular arguments would be: lack of anything that you’ve not already seen before. Novelty releases dopamine in the brain but the three disconnected (yet forcefully similar) love stories in this film ensure your brain doesn’t produce any dope (yours, mine or for anyone else).

If you’ve seen the promos, you know that the film features three different stories with the same lead pair spanning across decades. The first is based in 1960s Bombay which is apparently a cardboard world with photo studio backgrounds and almost stop-motion-esque establishing shots. Malvina Reynolds’ ‘Little Boxes’ would’ve been an ideal background score to complement the visuals. Without a ‘Japani joota’, Govind (Shahid Kapoor) is a musician dressed like a cross between Raj Kapoor, Charlie Chaplin and Shahrukh Khan from ‘Ram Jaane’. He bumps into Bollywood bombshell Ruksar (Priyanka Chopra) and their intimate discussion about raw mangoes ignites many crude desires (or so it must be?). Their chance encounters multiply and after many other unromantic conversations, Ruksar tosses her heart out to our caricatured guitarist. To make it a love triangle, Govind’s ‘saamnewali khidki’ neighbor Maahi (Prachi Desai) also sees herself growing old with him. And if the world couldn’t get any smaller, Maahi and Ruksar are childhood buds. So that’s ‘Padosan’ meets ‘Om Shanti Om’ meets ‘Awaara’
When in Lahore, feel up a goat

Leaping 50 years ahead, we’re in London and the year is 2012. Shahid is now a ‘frat ka raja’ called Krish who is invariably breaking up with a girl to only ‘unbreak up’ with another. Soon, he crashes into Radha (Priyanka) and through some confusion they’re drawn together. They dance the night away to ‘Mukhtasar’ and back it up with months of exploiting every form of communication available to man to build and nurture their relationship. The montage that features this is like a cellphone commercial, with Krish and Radha tweeting, FBing, BBMing, SMSing, chatting over the phone, on the messenger etc. Whether the idea of leaving out Fax and Xerox was a script call or a director’s cut cannot be told. Anyway, even here, there is a silly rift that is created between the two and we’re done with this sequence.

We know that we’re not going chronologically when the next story takes a giant leap backwards and we’re in Sargodha, Lahore in 1910. Now, having suffered the production values (or the lack of it) in the 1960s story, we have very little expectations. But surprisingly, we’re only let down even more. Lahore is merely a dusty village with turbaned revolutionaries, Brit colonists and our lead cast – sharing space to shop for veggies and fruits. One of the biggest fails for this sequence has to be the forced pre-independence conversations: One of the silliest being: “Independence ke baad, sikkay mein kiska photo lagega?” Anyway, here our Shahid is a flirtatious shayar Javed and Priyanka is Aaradhana, the daughter of a Sikh revolutionary. If you’re not one for shayaris, this part will be excruciatingly painful for you as Javed and Aaradhna have most of their conversations in shayaris. Some of them rhyme, some of them don’t but all of them leave you feeling burnt from inside.

This film ticks every cliché associated with Bollywood romance. The hero always meets his heroine by bumping into her or by falling over her or through some variation of collision. The hero has to be desirable enough to manage another girl who he will eventually dump for the heroine. The heroine will be upset with the hero for some reason just for you to momentarily worry about whether the ‘happily ever after’ would happen or not. And while it would be spoiler to tell you whether the three Shahids hook up with their respective Priyankas, just check every other Bollywood love story made for the answer.

Shahid Kapoor has proved himself as an actor, a dancer and a box office success. But this film takes away every credit that had been bestowed on him. Whether the character demanded it or not, he seems to be either too coy or too upstart and conveyed an air of shameless overconfidence. Even after ‘What’s Your Rashee?’, Priyanka Chopra hasn’t absorbed the fact that people don’t want to see more than one of her in a movie. While she is unobjectionable in all the three parts, neither of them stand out and make a mark to be remembered or appreciated.

Apart from ‘Mukhtasar’, neither of the songs inspire you to wake up or pay attention or help generate any interest in the film. One can argue saying that how does it matter in a love story if the period depicted seems half-baked, thanks to shoddy set designs. But then why base it in a period if you don’t have the production wherewithal to furnish it aesthetically if not accurately?

Love stories are made in film studios and not in heaven and ‘Teri Meri Kahaani’ has sets that look like hell to prove this point. While it will be a task to convince your date to shift to the neighbouring screen to catch the blood, sweat and grime in ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, it will be an effort well deserved. Unless your concept of a date is just a quiet, dark and air-conditioned place.

When Abhishek showed off Aaradhya’s photos!

The Bachchans’ have always been very guarded about their personal affairs. Only a select few from the film industry were called at Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai’s wedding and only a select few have met their baby, Aaradhya.

While the entire country is curious to see how Ash’s baby girl looks, actress Madhuri Dixit recently got the opportunity to see Aaradhya’s photos on dad Abhishek’s mobile. The actor along with Ajay Devgn came on the sets of ‘Jhalak Dikhla Jaa’ to promote their new film ‘Bol Bachchan’.

In between the shoot, proud daddy Abhishek showed his beti’s snapshots to Mads on his mobile. The actress let out a loud cry of ‘wow’ the moment she saw the pictures. While Abhishek beamed with pride, filmmaker Karan Johar smiled politely.

Now only if the family released some photos of the little girl for us fans, we could also perhaps give a similar reaction like Madhuri.

Deepika-Emraan in Dharma-Balaji film…

Deepika Padukone is on a roll. After Bebo rejecting Ekta Kapoor – Karan Johar’s film, it is heard that Deepy has taken Kareena’s place and will be seen opposite Emraan Hashmi.

It is heard that Kareena said no to Ekta-Karan because she wasn’t comfortable working with Hashmi. However, Deepika, who is known to explore the Bollywood industry, has no problem working with Emraan.

A source close to the Balaji- Dharma project revealed, “It is strange Kareena was not happy with her role. She also told Ekta and Karan that her wedding would be around the same time they wanted to start shooting for the film. It’s a heroine-oriented film and Emraan is not the mainstay of the project. Deepika was so excited about her role that she agreed to it a couple of days before boarding the flight to Turkey, where she is currently shooting for Race 2.”

If sources are to be believed, it is said that after giving ample thought, Kareena decided to return to the project. “It would have been unethical to show Deepika the door then. Moreover, they were unanimous in their opinion that Deepika could pull off the role as efficiently as Kareena would have,” added the source.

“The film is an urban take on love – it is quirky, edgy and dramatic,” says an insider.

The film will go on floors by end of this year.

Yash Chopra’s film finally named ‘Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum’?

However, the spokesperson, of the production house says, nothing is confirmed yet.

Is Gauri Khan and Priyanka Chopra patch up?

Shahrukh Khan’s wife Gauri Khan has called a truce with Priyanka Chopra! The star wife apparently had issues with the actress over her growing proximity with Shahrukh, but according to the recent reports Gauri has resolved the problems with PC.

Is all well at Shahrukh Khan’s household? “Things are solved now. Jo thoda bahot issues Gauri had with PC have been sorted now...,” reveals a source to a daily. Also it’s said that when Shahrukh Khan will be back in Mumbai in mid-July, and will host parties for his folks, Priyanka will be invited to all. Smiles and hugs are on the way, we guess.

However, what exactly was the problem between Gauri and PC is not clear. Insiders too doesn’t want to reveal much; as per a source, there was “some” trouble, but everything is fine now. It can be recalled how things went haywire with Priyanka Chopra when reports of her alleged closeness with Shahrukh Khan started doing the rounds. Later, she was even removed from the good books of the producer Karan Johar, a good friend of Gauri Khan. It was learnt that Karan too was upset with the SRK-Priyanka link-up.

Right now, Gauri Khan is with her husband and kids in London holidaying and having fun.

Akshay, Sonakshi to star in Rowdy Rathore prequel?

As soon as a film reaches the Rs. 100 crore mark, news about its sequel start to float! This time, buzz suggests that a prequel to Akshay Kumar’s Rowdy Rathore will be made!

We think that though this is not a novel idea, it is certainly a noble idea! The film has been rather well appreciated by the masses! The proof of it being the fact that despite some critics bashing the film, the moviegoers didn’t give a damn and Rowdy Rathore currently has more than Rs. 100 crore in its kitty, following 10 days of its release!

It is even being said that an official announcement about Rowdy Rathore 2 will be made this weekend, at the success bash of Rowdy Rathore! Interestingly, this is the second Akshay Kumar film to enter the 100 crore club; the first being Housefull 2!

Making sequels of hit films is not a new phenomenon -- Dabangg, Golmaal, Krrish, Race, being some examples! Going by the success rate of some of the sequels made so far, it is certainly a cashy…err…catchy idea to make a sequel to Rowdy Rathore!

We’ll keep you updated when the official announcement will be made! Watch this space for more!

Salman To Become Superhero In Sher Khan

The word superhero conjures up an image of a beefed-up hunk with undies over his skinsuit and a cape that unfurls as HE zips through the air to save the ladylove and slay the baddie. But Salman Khan is all set to defy this stereotype.

He is set to be a superhero out of the ordinary in brother Sohail Khan’s film Sher Khan, at last green-lit recently by Sallu himself. We hear that it would be a film aimed at kids and Salman will play a superhero very unlike the Krrishs or G.Ones we have seen and loved.

Rumi Jaffery, who has written dialogues and screenplay for a few films starring Salman Khan, has been pencilled in to create a screenplay for Sher Khan. The film, Rumi reveals, will have the superstar Khan doing action of a different kind than we have seen in film after film.

“He will be a hero that kids can identify with. The action scenes won't have him beating up a dozen goons single-handedly. He has done these things many times before,” Rumi Jaffery is quoted to have said in an interview.

We hear that Salman Khan will learn a south Indian martial art (probably Kalaripayattu) for his role in the movie. The actor’s leading lady in the film hasn’t been finalized yet, but the buzz is that the makers are looking out for a fresh face.

Sher Khan will go on the floors in October. The film will also have Salman sporting a new look, long hair et al.

He didn't reveal much about the song, but of the film shooting he said: "Presently we are shooting in Mumbai and we have almost finished some portion of the shooting in Patiala."

"Son Of Sardaar" features Ajay with Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt, Juhi Chawla, Mukul Dev and Vindu Dara Singh.

First Look : ‘Zanjeer’ remake

South actor Ram Charan Teja is all set to step into Amitabh Bachchan’s shoes, as the angry young man Inspector Vijay, on in the ‘Zanjeer’ remake.

Here is the first look of the actor.

The film is directed by Apoorva Lakhia, who shot to fame with Shootout At Lokhandwala, and will have Priyanka Chopra step into the shoes of Jaya Bachchan.

Says Ram, “Zanjeer is a tribute to Mr. Bachchan and my father (actor Chiranjeevi).”

Amitabh Bachchan posted on his blog, “I do hope they will make a successful film. It is a compliment to the film being remade it was worthy of remaking when you had a hand in making the original. How many films do carry the benefit of a remake, is what needs to be appreciated also.”

Till date, just forty percent of the film is complete.

Check out SRK and Anushka from Yash Chopra’s film

The ever lively Anushka Sharma is seen enjoying a bike ride with Shahrukh Khan in this still from Yash Chopra’s comeback film. Three years post their first pairing, the duo still rock together.

If the 2009 movie Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi had Anushka Sharma taking the handle and a wimpy Shahrukh Khan sitting pillion on a bike through the crowded lanes of an Indian small town, the 2012 movie directed by Yash Chopra has them swapping places.

It’s Shahrukh who hits the throttle this time, with a helmet and aviators on, while Anushka Sharma sits pillion.

The shoot of the film is presently underway in London and the stills of Shahrukh Khan and Anushka too look like clicked on a London road.
The untitled film marks the comeback of Yash Chopra to direction after a long gap. The leading lady of the movie is Katrina Kaif.

The film is set to release on Diwali this year.
