Actor Farooq Sheikh Passes Away

 

 Veteran actor Farooq Sheikh, 65, died late on Friday night due to heart attack in Dubai.

His body will be brought to Mumbai later in the day after completing the formalities in Dubai.

He was best known for his films during the 1970s and 1980s. His major contribution was in Parallel Cinema or the New Indian Cinema.

He acted in many serials and shows on television and performed on stage in famous productions.

Sheikh was best known for his roles in 'Shatranj Ke Khiladi', 'Chashme Baddoor', 'Kissi Se Na Kehna' and 'Noorie'.

His passing was mourned by several celebrities on Twitter. Here are some tweets:

Actress Gauahar Khan Wins Bigg Boss 7

Bollywood actress and model Gauahar Khan has emerged the victor in an entertaining season 7 of the reality show Bigg Boss.

Gauahar's stay in the Bigg Boss house has been eventful to say the least, having left the premises mid-way when she believed that Bigg Boss was treating her and co-contestant Kushal Tandon unfairly. She re-entered the house shortly after.

What also helped Gauahar gain favour with fans is her love story with Kushal Tandon and being the object of affection of Ajaz Khan.

Not everyone got along with Gauahar. The model frequently got into fights with Tanishaa Mukherjee, Armaan Kohli and VJ Andy, among others. She was even rebuked

She showed that she was made of strong stuff when she stayed crouched under a box for over 12 hours as part of a task set by Bigg Boss.

Gauahar walks away with prize money of Rs 1 crore and of course, the honour of being crowned the winner of Bigg Boss Season 7.

Armaan and Tanissha in a serious love relationship, says Rajat Sharma

It is being said that Armaan Kohli and Tanishaa Mukherji were faking their romance on Bigg Boss 7 to get viewership. But well-known television journalist Rajat Sharma, who conducted a mock-trial of the finalists, says the relationship is for real.

"One can fake it for a while. But when numerous cameras are watching you constantly, you are bound to show your true feelings. No, I don't think they're faking it." said Sharma, who visited the house last week.

This was Rajat Sharma's first appearance on the Colors' reality show, doing what he is famous for - grilling celebrities. He enjoyed the experience.

"One can't dispute the success of Bigg Boss. It is watched by every section of the audience. I am not a regular viewer of the show. But when I was invited to do my Aap Ki Adaalat on Bigg Boss, I did my research on the six contestants, as I do on all the celebrities who I question on Aap Ki Adaalat." he said.

Bigg Boss finale is on Saturday and Tanisha Mukherji, Gauahar Khan, VJ Andy, Ajaz Khan and Sangram Singh, who were grilled by Rajat Sharma along with Armaan Kohli, are vying for the big prize.

Rajat Sharma is impressed with the work put in by the Bigg Boss team. "There are 500 people working round the clock. These are people who know their jobs, and this is a show that knows its mind."

He wouldn't mind going back to the show if called again.

Numerologist predicts Sangram Singh as the winner of the Bigg Boss 7

Contestant Sangram Singh, who hasn’t been involved in many brawls in the house, is predicted to be the winner of Bigg Boss 7 by numerologist Sanjay B Jumaani who foretold the winners of last three season of the show.

Jumaani, on the social networking site, has chosen Sangram as his first choice followed by VJ Andy on the show. His prediction seems to be getting true as Singh was the first contestant to reach to the top in Monday’s episode.

The numerologist earlier predicted  Shweta Tiwari, Juhi Parmar and Urvashi Dholakia as the winners of the season four, five and six respectively.

Jumaani submerges the numbers and stars of Sangram and quotes, “Sangram's name adds up to 36 (9). Cancer ruler is number 2, moon, and Sangram is in his 29th (2) year. Number 9, Mars, lends fighting qualities. Not only is Salman a number 9, three of the past six BB winners have also been number 9 (Rahul Roy, Vindu Dara Singh and Urvashi)," says Jumaani.

So, will it be consecutively fourth time in a row for him?

Dhoom: 3 breaks box office records in Pakistan

Bollywood icon Aamir Khan's latest release Dhoom: 3 has broken box office records in Pakistan in the first week of its release, with multiplexes running five shows a day to capitalise on interest in the film.

In the country's largest city of Karachi, Dhoom: 3's box office receipts from 56 screens on its opening day was around Rs 20 million. This easily broke the record set by the Pakistani film, Waar last month for the highest box office collections on the first day of release.

"Waar grossed Rs 11.4 million on its opening day but Dhoom: 3 has surpassed that by a large margin." said Nadeem Mandviwalla, one of Pakistan's leading exhibitors and distributors. Dhoom: 3 was released at a time when the screening of Indian movies had come under a cloud because of an order from the Lahore High Court barring the exhibition of 'illegally' imported films.

The Dhoom: 3 craze in Karachi has reached such heights that multiplexes are running the film on all their screens and having five shows a day on one screen - something unheard of, in the Pakistani film industry.

"There is no doubt that Dhoom: 3 has been a massive hit and the reason for this is clearly Aamir Khan and the pre-release publicity for the film." Mandviwalla said.

Abdul Haq, manager of Capri Cinema, said that while Waar was released during the Eid holidays, Dhoom: 3 was released on a normal weekend. "There is great interest in the film and we are getting audiences of all ages and sexes." Haq said.

Mandviwalla said, "Dhoom: 3's success comes at the end of a year during which Pakistani films have done well at the box office and have also been received well.

It will be interesting to see by what margin Dhoom:3 breaks the record for the highest box office collections in Pakistan, which is held by Chennai Express with grosses of Rs 100 million."

Mandviwalla said 2013 was a great year for exhibitors and distributors and the success of Chambeli, Main Hoon Shahid Afridi and Waar. Chennai Express and Dhoom: 3 showed that Pakistani and Indian films could co-exist on screens.

Salman Khan, Elli Avram to perform on Mashallah on grand finale :'Bigg Boss 7'

 

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan will perform with Swedish-Greek actress Elli Avram Saturday at the grand finale of the popular reality show 'Bigg Boss - Saath 7'.

The duo will be seen performing to the song 'Mashallah', which was picturised on Salman and Katrina Kaif in the hit spy thriller 'Ek Tha Tiger'.

Many felt that Elli, who made her Bollywood debut with 'Mickey Virus', was one of Salman's favourite contestants on the show. He often referred to her as 'paanch saal pehle ki Katrina Kaif'.

Though she spoke in broken Hindi, Elli managed to grasp songs like 'Tere bina jiya jaaye na' and 'Hum dil de chuke sanam' on the show. Those who have followed the show must have seen her dedicating the songs to Salman, whom she often referred to as 'Salmanji' or 'Salman jaan'.

The finale won't be the first time that Salman and Elli will be seen dancing together. The two jived on 'Sathiya ye tune kya kiya' after Elli's eviction from the show Nov 23.

The other performances on the finale night will be of Armaan Kohli, Pratyusha Banerjee and Kamya Punjabi.

Maharashtra Navnirman Sena head and Bal Thackeray's son Raj Thackeray touched Amitabh Bachchan's feet at the party function in Mumbai.

For the first time in almost five years, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) appears to have softened its stand towards mega-star Amitabh Bachchan.

The MNS invited Bachchan at a party function here Monday evening in which Raj Thackeray will also be present on the dais, a top official said.

"Bachchan has kindly consented to grace the seventh anniversary function of the MNS Chitrapat Sena along with our party president Raj Thackeray," said MNS vice president Vageesh Saraswat.

Relations between Bachchan and Thackeray went for a toss after Bachchan agreed to become brand ambassador for Uttar Pradesh over five years ago.

Later, there was bitter stand-off when once Bachchan said that "we are UP-walas and we don't speak Marathi", which infuriated Raj Thackeray.

"We may have differences of opinion on various political issues, but there is no personal animosity with any individual," Saraswat explained, adding the party will be happy to welcome Bachchan.

Bachchan will distribute insurance policies to junior artistes and stunt people as part of the centenary of the Indian film industry.

Barring the occasional fracas, the Bachchans have always enjoyed a close relationship with all members of the Thackeray clan from the days of the late Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.
 

Kareena Kapoor Khan: No longer feel safe in Mumbai

 

Kareena Kapoor says that she no longer feels safe in Mumbai as she used to two years back and "feeling of unrest is always there in me".

Kareena was present at the launch of Channel V's "Vith U" app for the safety of women.

When asked if she feels safe in Mumbai, she said: "I felt safe two years ago. But in the last two years there is an uneasiness in the city (of Mumbai)."

"The recent crimes against women have left some kind of unsafety even in our city, not only in Delhi. If such cases can happen in the capital then these can happen anywhere. A feeling of unrest is always there in me," she added.

Kareena also expressed shock over the continued increase in rape cases in the country.

She said that like others, her mother is also worried about her whenever she is shooting late at night and has to message her when she reaches home.

"If I am shooting at night my mother is worried about me. She stays awake as much as possible when I am shooting late at night or early morning," said the actress who is married to actor Saif Ali Khan.

"I have to message her everyday when I reach back home," she added.

VJ Andy eliminated from Bigg Boss 7

The 33-year-old's journey in the 'Bigg Boss' house saw lots of ups and downs, but one of the major highlights was his fight with actor Kushal Tandon, after which the latter was asked to leave the show.

Just three days before the grand finale of "Bigg Boss - Saath 7", VJ Andy was evicted from the popular reality show.

He was eliminated in the mid-week eviction on Tuesday night.

Andy, along with the other contestants Gauhar Khan, Ajaz Khan and Tanisha Mukherjee, was nominated for the eviction. Sangram Singh was not a part of the elimination after he chose the mystery briefcase and was selected as the first finalist.

The 33-year-old's journey in the 'Bigg Boss' house saw lots of ups and downs, but one of the major highlights was his fight with actor Kushal Tandon, after which the latter was asked to leave the show.

He maintained a cordial relationship with the other inmates of the show, but he always referred to Sangram as "best friend" and "bhai".

Andy was one of the most entertaining contestants on the show, and was often seen providing comic relief by his tactics, like "Aloo bade kadade".

Bigg Boss 7: Gauahar Faces Shocking Mid-Week Nominations

Bigg Boss 7 has turned out to become the most talked about season ever in the history of Bigg Boss. And nothing is in good taste! Like a masala Bollywood movie, it has action, violence, politics, drama, controversies and even sex. The weekly episodes are now faring TRPs equal to the Salman Khan‘s weekend episodes, which so far are the most watched episodes in India and abroad.

As told to us, the finale has been preponed by a day. The Grand Finale will now happen on December 28, 2013 instead of December 29, 2013.

After Kushal’s mid-week eviction, his Bigg Boss 7 girlfriend Gauahar Khan is left alone in the house, to face Rajat Sharma in Aap Ki Adalat. The Bigg Boss 7 house has been converted into Rajat Sharma’s Aap Ki Adalat, where he grilled every housemate. Some came out clean, some broke down, and some tried to defend themselves as much as possible.

Rajat pointed fingers at Sangram and Andy’s friendship, which according to him is only confined to the Bigg Boss 7 house. Sangram defended the same, and said that his friendship with Andy is for the keeps, and there have been times where he couldn’t stand up for Andy, but said that it is part of the game and it’s rules.

Rajat also grilled Ajaz. Ajaz later spilled the beans about Armaan and Tanisha’s relationship, and hinted at a possibility of a marriage between them soon. Armaan and Tanisha have been the talk of the town, and everyone has been speculating about their relationship, but post today it seems all rumor mills will be put to rest. Unlike Gauahar and Kushal, Armaan and Tanisha were always non-committal about their relationship, although it is visible all over. They went beyond hugging and kissing, but they never were verbal about the status.

Our sources told us that once Rajat Sharma left the house, since Kushal has been evicted mid-week, re-nominations were held amongst the remaining housemates. The latest we heard from the sources, and if they are to be believed, then at least Gauahar, Armaan and Andy have been nominated for eviction in this mid-week process, one of whom will be evicted on Saturday, December 21, 2013.

The source further told us that the broadcasters are taking such decisions, as they have to make sure the show becomes interesting, and as the Grand Finale comes closer, the hype around it has to be raised. “After all Bigg Boss is all about sudden twists,” adds the source.

Watch Out Parineeti, Sidharth go crazy in 'Hasee Toh Phasee' trailer

Actress Parineeti Chopra essays the role of a "mad scientist" in her forthcoming film "Hasee To Phasee". She says it's something never seen before on the big screen.

"I wish I could tell you everything about my role. I play a scientist who is actually a little mad. It's something that I have never seen on screen," the 25-year-old said here Friday at the first look launch of the film.

The promo shows Parineeti in different looks and she says the film will surprise the audience with what it has to offer.

"We only show a teaser of the film in the trailer and I can assure you that you will be surprised to see the reason behind all the madness that you have seen in the promo," Parineeti said.

"The film has much more than what we can show in the trailer. I can assure you that you will get a big surprise when you see the film," she added.

Directed by Vinil Matthew, "Hasee Toh Phasee" also stars Siddharth Malhotra. The film hits theatres Feb 7.

The much awaited trailer of Imtiaz Ali's latest venture, 'Highway', is out. The film features 'Student of the Year' actress Alia Bhatt and Randeep Hooda who was last seen in 'John Day'.

'Highway' is a story of two characters from different backgrounds — played by Randeep and Alia.

As shown in the trailer, Randeep kidnaps Alia and takes her away in a truck. The trailer has Alia expressing herself and saying, "I don't want to go back to the place from where you kidnapped me" and then it shows a brief flashback where Alia is seen getting tortured by the rugged Randeep Hooda. Alia then says, "Where ever you are taking me, I don't want to reach there, but this 'way', 'the road' are so good, I wish it never ends".

It is then, when Alia, the girl who has been kidnapped, realises her freedom in bondage and starts loving the drive, the roads and the entire road trip across six states. Thus, the story unfolds.

In this fifth film of Imtiaz Ali, after 'Rockstar', chirpy Alia comes across as a surprise as she has given a mature performance.

The film has Oscars winner A R Rahman's music.

Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, 'Highway' is basically a romantic-drama and slated to release on February 21.

Dhoom: 3 goes pricey, tickets to cost between Rs 700-900

Dhoom 3 is no doubt an awaited film of this year and everyone is keen to watch the third instalment of Dhoom specially youth and bike lovers, but will they be ready to spent double of the normal amount. Yes, as the film's release draws closer, the IMAX screens have set their prices at Rs 400-600 for the morning shows and Rs 700-900 for the night shows, according to their official website.

This price might put youths in deep thoughts before entering into the theaters. Even some might not dare to.
For a family of five, watching "Dhoom 3" could thus mean an expenditure of Rs 4,500, sans any coke and popcorn.

The prices might seem extravagant and uneconomical for a middle class family but advance booking status on the website shows that the seats are filling up fast and have even been sold out at places.

This might be the reflection of status of IMAX screens but others are keeping the ticket price affordable. The cost of tickets in multiplexes ranges between Rs 300-Rs 400.

The prices in New Delhi seem to be lesser than those in Mumbai and range between Rs 200-Rs 250, with the exception of a few theatres where the prices have gone upto Rs 500.

Smaller cities like Chandigarh and Jaipur fall in the average price range of Rs 150-Rs 400. However, there are also places like the Gaiety Galaxy theatre in Bandra here where you can enjoy Aamir Khan's grey character in the action thriller at reasonable rates.

"All the theatres might have been taking advantage of the release of 'Dhoom 3', but we at Gaiety Galaxy have made it a point to not increase the rate. Our ticket prices remain consistent at Rs 70-Rs 90," said Manoj Desai of Gaiety Galaxy.

Desai added that the weekend is already pre-booked and he is expecting an identical pattern in the following week as well.

Produced under the Yash Raj Films (YRF) banner and directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya, the film boasts of a starry cast with Aamir in a new avatar, he will be seen as a gymnast.

Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra will reprise their roles of Jai Dixit and Ali from the last two "Dhoom" movies and Katrina Kaif will enhances the glamour quotient as the female lead in the movie, which will be Bollywood's first film to be released in the IMAX format, a specialised film format.

The 2D film is already being appreciated for the stunts featured in the trailer and especially the bike scenes featuring Aamir.

Trade analyst Amod Mehra predicts that the film will surpass the collections of previous blockbusters.

"Reality check.. Mark my words...'Dhoom 3' will cross Rs 100 crore in the first three days and it will also cross Rs.200 crore in the first seven days," Mehra said in post on Twitter on Wednesday.

Raising the bar of pre-release promotions, the makers have also come up with innovative advertisements with tag lines reading "It's Dhoom day...Are you bunking college today."

Not only is the film expected to flourish in India, it will also see a release in Pakistan.

Kushaal Tandon eliminated from house in surprise eviction of Big boss

Small screen actor Kushal Tandon got eliminated from the popular reality show Bigg Boss - Saath 7 in the early hours of Wednesday (December 18, 2013) morning.

Kushal Tandon was nominated for this week's elimination with actors Gauhar Khan and Ajaz Khan, but the mid-week eviction came as a surprise as the inmates were unaware of it.

The episode will be aired on Wednesday (December 18, 2013) .

The 28-year-old was previously ousted from the Bigg Boss house due to his aggressive nature and misconduct towards co-contestant VJ Andy. However, he re-entered the show on November 21.

After his comeback on the show, the Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai actor was seen making an effort to maintain cordial relations with the other housemates, but his efforts went in vain.

Another highlight during his stay in the house was he confessed his love for Gauhar and proposed her in front of the house mates. Gauhar also poured her heart out for Kushal Tandon and accepted his proposal.

The show will have another eviction in the Saturday episode that will be hosted by Bollywood star Salman Khan.

"Post Kushal Tandon's eviction, fresh nominations took place in the house and one of them will be evicted on Saturday," said a source from the channel.

Kareena Kapoor raised eyebrows after her comment on 'Koffee With Karan' calling cousin Ranbir Kapoor's rumoured girlfriend Katrina Kaif as her sister-in-law. While Kareena pulled Ranbir's leg on the show, at another event superstar Salman Khan also called ex-girlfriend Katrina his sister-in-law!

At the trailer launch of his upcoming film ' Jai Ho' where the media was present, Salman called former lady love Katrina Kaif as his sister-in-law. Unlike Kareena's statement, this comment was however not made in jest.


When a TV journalist asked Salman to give his reaction on Kareena's 'sister-in-law' comment, Sallu bhai lost his infamous temper. He reportedly said, Agar woh Kareena ki sister-in-law hai toh meri bhi sister-in-law ho gayi yaar.

Apparently, soon after making this statement, Salman lost his cool and took pot-shots at the reporter. As quoted in Hindustan Times Salman said "Aap wake hi journalist ho? I swear to God, abhi tak mujhe nahi laga, par ab mujhe wakei mein lag raha hai ki aap journalist ho. Maan, maryada, sanskriti aap mein phut phut ke bhari hui hai na? Yeh shayad aapke mata-pita ne sikhaya hoga".


'Jai Ho' is directed by Salman's brother Sohail Khan and stars him in the lead. The film is expected to hit cinema screens on January 26, 2014.

Bigg Boss7 :Kamya Punjabi evicted from Bigg Boss house

As reality celebrity show Bigg Boss is nearing the final phase, unexpected results are keeping the viewers on the edge.

So, TV actor Kamya Punjabi's eviction from the house on Saturday left Bigg Boss fans completely shocked.

One of the most level-headed players on the seventh edition of the show, Kamya was considered as a strong contender to win the show.

While many times Kamya got into fights with the housemates, she maintained her dignity in very situation and even earned the praise of host Salman Khan for walking the straight path.

During her stay in the house, Kamya was close to Pratyusha Banerjee of Balika Vadhu fame. Initially, she had some friction with Gauhar Khan but later the girls bonded when Kamya stood with her during her showdown with Andy.

What can be termed as Kamya's ugliet fight in the house is her spat with Armaan Kohli, who during a task had called the actress divorcee and even abused her. Kamya was applauded for the way she conducted herself and stood up to Armaan.

With Kamya's eviction, Kushaal Tandon, Gauahar Khan, Armaan Kohli, Tanisha Mukerji, VJ Andy, Ajaz Khan and Sangram Singh are in the winner's race .

I'm not marrying Ranbir Kapoor, would love to dance at his wedding, clarifies by Katrina Kaif

Actress Katrina Kaif said she is not getting engaged or married to her rumoured beau Ranbir Kapoor, but would love to dance at his wedding.

"I am not getting married or engaged to anyone soon. You can lock it. It's final. I am not getting married to anyone. I don't know if it (marriage) will happen in 10 or 20 years or so," Katrina told reporters here today when asked about her relationship with Ranbir.

Asked who Ranbir should get married to if not to her, the glamorous Bollywood star said he should tie the knot with the woman of his choice.

On whether she would like to dance at Ranbir's wedding, Katrina said she would love to do so and even mentioned a popular song from the just released 'Besharam' (which features Ranbir) in this regard.

Dilip Kumar turns 91, to celebrate with family

Legendary actor Dilip Kumar, who turned 91 on Wednesday, December 11, will have a quiet celebration with close friends, family and a team of doctors, says his wife Saira Banu.

"I only want to thank Allah for whatever he has given us. We will have a great celebration with family members and around 30 to 40 doctors who looked after him. They are like family to us," Saira Banu, who has been married to the veteran for 47 years, said.

The star of films like Devdas, Madhumati, and Mughal-E-Azam started receiving wishes from Tuesday itself.

"His day has been wonderful so far. Wishes started pouring in since last night. He is now tired a bit as he has been busy since morning. He is taking some rest right now," she said.

Saira Banu, who worked with Dilip Kumar in Gopi and Sagina, has organised a garden party at their Pali Hill residence in the evening.

This year is extra special, thanks to the date - 11/12/13.

"It's all the more a special day as it is 11/12/13 today. I exactly wished him at 8 hours 9-minutes and 10 seconds. So it's 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13."

Talking about Dilip Kumar's health, Saira Banu said he has become little weak but he is healthy.

"He was in the hospital some time back as you all know so he is a little weak, but by god's grace he is healthy," she said.

When asked what she gifted him on his birthday, she said: "Dilip sahib is not fond of many things. He only believes in humanity, so I gifted him lots of love and each year the love is only getting bigger and bigger."

Ali Zafar is Sexiest Asian Man

 Singer-actor Ali Zafar has become the first Pakistani to ever top Eastern Eye newspaper's list of the 50 Sexiest Asian Men In The World.

The 33-year-old was number one in a list largely dominated by celebrities from India, and narrowly beat two-time winner Hrithik Roshan into second place.

Zafar, who has graduated from annually being the highest placed Pakistani in the list to becoming the sexiest Asian man on the planet, said, "I am very flattered and never expected to be given this title. I still don't know how I made it onto this list let alone top it, but would like to thank all those who voted for me from the bottom of my heart."

Eastern Eye showbiz editor Asjad Nazir, who compiles the annual list and is chairman of the judging panel, said, "Such was the volume of votes received from different continents, that the star of hit film 'Chashme Baddoor' and soon to be released comedy 'Total Siyapaa' was trending worldwide across Twitter. The other very big surprise of the 2013 list was Indian actor Barun Sobti, who rose seven places from last year to third place on the list, despite being off-screen since he left hit TV serial 'Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?' to pursue a movie career in 2012. Sobti led a burgeoning group of television stars that are clearly giving their film contemporaries a run for their money in this year's list."

These included Kushal Tandon (9), Gurmeet Choudhary (11), Karan Singh Grover (13), Rithvik Dhanjani (15), Salman Yussuf Khan (20), Gautam Rode (23), Vivian D Sena (24), Eijaz Khan (42) and Karan Wahi (46).

There were more TV stars in the top 50 than ever before and this continuing emergence showed that they are catching up fast to the dominant Bollywood heroes.

"They are playing a much bigger part in the lives of people and that probably explains why so many film stars use television to promote their movies. It also explains why movie producers are now signing up TV stars," Nazir said.

Like last year, the highest placed Pakistani was once again Ali Zafar (1), the highest placed British star was One Direction band member Zayn Malik (8) and the highest placed sportsman was Indian cricket star Virat Kohli (10).

Actor Sushant Singh Rajput (18) rounded off a dream year by becoming the highest placed newcomer in the list. Other notable names in the list included Shahid Kapoor (4), Salman Khan (5), Ranbir Kapoor (6), Sidharth Malhotra (12), Shah Rukh Khan (14), Jay Sean (17), singer Arjun (25), Karan Tacker (28), Varun Dhawan (35) and Mohit Raina (50).

Rajinikanth turns 63 Today

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth today turned 63 and is said to be celebrating his birthday in native town Bangalore.

Sources close to the actor said he had earlier left for the city, keeping with his usual practice of staying away from Chennai on his birthday every year.

However, he had met his fans last year.

Die-hard fans of the veteran actor have organised special prayers and welfare activities to celebrate their idol's birthday.

Rajinikanth's is a typical rags-to-riches story as he has transformed his mundane life as a bus conductor in Bangalore to that of a most sought after actor, with a frenzied fan base hailing him as their 'Thalaivar' (The Leader).

From what started as a small role in his mentor K Balachander's 'Aboorva Ragangal' in 1975, Rajinikanth soon charted his path as a preferred villain before opting for more positive roles.

Whether it be portraying struggles of a low-class printing unit employee in 'Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai' (From 6 to 60) or portraying the divinity of Sage Ragavendra, the actor has proved he was second to none when it came to challenging roles.

He broke many stereotypes of a hero, including holding a cigarette with much style while mouthing dialogues in his own inimitable way, that made many a young fan go razy. Previously, Tamil film heroes avoided scenes of smoking or drinking.

However, the smoking scenes later turned against him, with the S Ramadoss-led party PMK objecting to his on-screen smoking, claiming he promoted cigarette culture among youth. He has since then largely avoided smoking in his films.

Known for his humility and outspoken nature, he had also courted controversy in 1996, making some remarks against then ruling AIADMK dispensation. He later supported a DMK-Tamil Maanila congress alliance which swept the polls that year.

Kamya and Sangram broke the record of Big Brother UK by surviving in a box for more than 26 hours.

Kamya and Sangram have always come across as tough contenders in the Bigg Boss house. These contestants have always given their sweat and blood to every task that they have undertaken and have proved themselves.

As a part of the luxury budget task, three contenders Andy, Sangram and Kamya were asked to undertake the Bigg Box task where they were to survive inside a box with an aid of a survival kit. The one contestant, who is able to survive inside the box for the maximum time would win the 'Ticket to Finale' task by securing a position in the grand finale.

While Andy is the first one to come out of the box after surviving for approximately 19 hours, Sangram and Kamya still continue to perform the task and survive in the box.

As a result of their strong will and determination, Kamya and Sangram broke the record of Big Brother UK by surviving in a box for more than 26 hours. Soon after they break the record, Bigg Boss makes an announcement and congratulates Sangram and Kamya on their achievement. It was a moment of pride for both Kamya and Sangram and the housemates also cheer for their achievement.

Even after achieving a milestone and adding another feather to their cap, Kamya and Sangram continue to survive in the box with the desire to reach the grand finale. So what record will they set?

Sreesanth ties knot with jewellery designer Bhuvneshwari Kumari

Indian cricketer S Sreesanth tied knot with Bhuvneshwari Kumari, of Jaipur's Shikhavat family, at Sree Krishna temple in Guruvayoor on Thursday.

The marriage as per the traditional Kerala Hindu style was held at an auspicious time this morning.

The function was attended by the family members of Sreesanth and Kumari.Rituals as per Rajasthani culture were held at a private hotel in Kochi on Wednesday.

Kumari, a jewellery designer by profession, first met Sreesanth six year ago during a one-day cricket match against Pakistan in Jaipur.

Sreesanth had announced the marriage earlier this year before he got embroiled in the match-fixing scandal in May. Although the cricketer was jailed in the match-fixing case for 21 days and was banned by the BCCI from all forms of cricket, Kumari stood by her beleaguered lover.After the ceremonial functions at Guruvayoor temple, the newly-wed would leave for Sreesanth's native place Kothamangalam in Ernakulam for a reception.

Dhoom: 3, starring Ranbir Kapoor. And Aamir, Abhishek. But mostly Ranbir

When Aamir Khan declared that the Dhoom: 3 marketing strategy was based on the 'less is more' principle, he could hardly have imagined that promotions of the film would become less about Dhoom: 3 and more about the reported Ranbir Kapoor-Katrina Kaif romance. The three heroes of Dhoom: 3 - Aamir, Abhishek Bachchan and Uday Chopra - suddenly find their numbers expanded by one. The spirit of Ranbir Kapoor has loomed large at almost every interaction the cast of the film has had with the press.

At the launch of the title song of Dhoom: 3, actress Katrina Kaif was quizzed about being photographed with Ranbir while on holiday in Spain. She said: "Next time if something like that is going to happen, just give me a little bit of notice and I'll make sure I wear matching clothes that's all." She added: "I am single till I get married and I'm not married, there are no plans for marriage yet."

Matters were compounded by Ranbir's cousin Kareena who blithely stated that she would dance to Katrina's hit songs at Ranbir's wedding. When the entire cast of the film appeared together for the first time on December 11, once again it was Ranbir who took centre-stage without even being present.

What about Kareena's announcement of Katrina's wedding plans, the actress was asked. "I am not getting married, I am not engaged. I think that was said as a joke. Kareena and Ranbir are cousins. Everyone knows when you go on Koffee With Karan you are meant to pull the other person's leg," Katrina said.

But the questions kept coming. "Ranbir placed you ahead of Deepika and Priyanka in terms of acting. Do you think that statement was made in jest?" asked a reporter. "I think Ranbir just knows what's good for him. I think that was the reason for that statement," said Katrina.

And that wasn't it either. Asked to comment on Ranbir's statement in which he called her a special person and said he'd give his life for her, an embarrassed Katrina said "I will give my life for anyone who's in need. And who's a dear friend."

At which time Abhishek Bachchan promptly jumped in with, "The cast of Dhoom: 3 is in great need."

That's right. A great need to see the last of the shadow of Ranbir Kapoor.

Fardeen Khan, wife Natasha welcome first baby girl

Bollywood actor Fardeen Khan and his wife Natasha Madhwani have been blessed with a baby girl.

This is the couple's first child and they have decided to name her Diani Isabella Khan.

Many Bollywood stars took to Twitter to congratulate the new parents.

Jewellery designer Farah Ali Khan, who is Fardeen's cousin, wished the couple on the arrival of their baby.

"Woke up to wonderful news. My cousin Fardeen and his wife Natasha were blessed by a beautiful baby girl Diani Isabella Khan yesterday. God bless my little niece with loads of health wealth and happiness. Congratulations to the parents," Farah posted on Twitter.

Singer-actress Sophie Choudhry said, "Congrats Fardeen. Thrilled for you and Natasha! You will make wonderful parents and deserve all the happiness! Can't wait to meet baby Khan! God bless."

Director Ken Ghosh, who worked with Fardeen in 'Fida' also congratulated him and his wife for their bundle of joy.

"Congratulations Fardeen and Natasha Khan on the birth of a beautiful baby girl Diani Isabella Khan. God bless," Ghosh tweeted.

Fardeen had announced the news of his wife's pregnancy back in October. Natasha, who is the daughter of yesteryear actress Mumtaz, previously suffered a miscarriage.

We were the first to tell you all about how leading actor-producers from the industry were looking to invest in land and setting up their own studios — something that only a few iconic filmmakers like Raj Kapoor might have done in the past. We’d mentioned that Salman Khan, Ajay Devgn and Shah Rukh Khan were among the actors who had indicated an interest in doing so. Now it seems that SRK has got the first mover advantage, by finalising a major studio purchase deal.

The buzz in B-town is that the King Khan has invested a lot of moolah in the conveniently located Essel Studios in Mumbai. While peers like Salman and Ajay are still scouting suitable properties and land, SRK, we hear, has beaten them to the punch. “Look, apart from being an actor, Shah Rukh is also an astute businessman,” said one trade analyst. “Anyway, actors of late have smartened up and are investing wisely. The reports about these top actors wanting to set up their own studios has been around for a while and hopefully, the others too will follow suit.”

According to a source close to the superstar, a formal announcement about the studio deal will be made soon. “SRK and his team have already chalked out plans for the renovation of the studio and are currently thinking of renaming the landmark as well,” our source added.

Elli Avram was touted as Salman Khan’s favourite Bigg Boss 7 contestant. The actor insisted on brushing up Ms Avram’s Hindi and culinary skills. However the Mickey Virus actor doesn’t take the Dabangg Khan seriously. Salman was seen flirting with Elli several times during her stint on reality show. Elli says she does not take Bollywood star Salman Khan’s marriage proposal seriously. The one-film-old actor in a recent interview said, “I will not take his (Salman’s) proposal seriously.” Elii joked.  The 23-year-old actor also said she does not know Salman well enough to think about a relationship with him.  “On a serious not relationship and marriage is something huge in life which is between two people, who know and respect each other and have values,” Elli told.

The Swedish-born actor has listed Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan as her favourite and said she loves his 2002 film Devdas.  “I like Devdas the most because the love that is shown in the movie is so deep and beautiful, it is amazing. I have a crush on that movie,” said Elli, who was in the capital to attend designer Nitya Bajaj’s fashion show.

Elli was ousted from Bigg Boss house is now supporting wrestler Sangram Singh and hopes that he wins the show.  “Sangram is a very humble and nice man. My relationship with Kamya Panjabi was cold from the beginning, but I do not have any grudge against her,” she said.  Elli said that she is enjoying her stay in India.  “My experience in India has been very nice, actually I really want to show Europeans that India is a very beautiful country and we can learn so much from this country,” Elli said.  The actor also said that she has been reading film scripts but is yet to decide on her next Bollywood outing, “I have lot of offers from Bollywood. But I am taking it slow.”

Dhoom machale dhoom – Is Naya’s Arabic version any match to Tata Young’s English rendition

After Tata Young’s English version of Dhoom machale dhoom, this time YRF has given the title track of Dhoom:3 an Arabic twist. But is it a treat to the ears?

We weren’t highly impressed with the Hindi version of Dhoom:3’s title track and our opinion is pretty much the same about the Arabic rendition which has been sung by Naya. What’s funnier is that the song features Katrina Kaif mainly and she is seen mouthing only the Dhoom machale dhoom line. Coming to the Arabic singing sensation Naya, her voice isn’t as dumdaar as Taya Young who had sung the English version of Dhoom machale dhoom in Dhoom. Also, Naya’s look reminded us of American pop star Lady Gaga especially her hairstyle. Watch the video and you’ll agree. But what’s puzzling is that as a part of promotional strategy the makers of Aamir Khan-Katrina starrer decided not to release full songs of their film then we wonder why have they made an exception with the title track. In fact, now the full song is out in two versions, strange na?

While Tata Young sung Dhoom machale dhoom amazingly well, the makers may not receive the same response for the new Arabic version by Naya. Coz the same trick doesn’t work twice, hai na?

Gunday trailer launch at Dubai International Film Festival

This would be the first film to be premiered at DIFF

The trailer of Yash Raj Films’ Gunday, starring Arjun Kapoor, Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra will be unveiled at the Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF).

The much-awaited trailer will be launched on December 13 at the Madinat theatre in the presence of the film’s actors Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra along with director Ali Abbas Zafar, according to an official statement. It also added that Gunday will be the first Indian film to have its trailer premier at DIFF.

The film is based in Kolkata during its most unsettled times in the ’70s and deals with the inseparable life of Bikram and Bala, who grew from being small time, inconsequential coal thieves, to becoming the most powerful black marketing mafia men.

Produced by Aditya Chopra, Gunday is slated to release worldwide on February 14 next year.
