Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt to star in Karan Johar’s next

The Bollywood-buffs are in for a treat as the fresh pair of Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt gear up to sizzle the silver screen. The star-kids, who have expressed a desire to work with each other in the past, have been roped in by Dharma Productions to ensure a warm Christmas next year.

Karan Johar’s next, which continues to remain untitled, is lined up for a Christmas 2016 release, and will be directed by the Kolkata-born Ayan Mukerji.

At present, producer-director Karan Johar is working with Salman Khan for ‘Shudhhi’, a movie that has been in the pipeline for quite long now and has seen too many changes as regards the male-lead with the ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’-director’s original choice being Hrithik Roshan. As Hrithik opted out of Karan’s ambitious project, the ripples of excitement about his coming together with Kareena Kapoor after almost a decade died down.

Confirming the rumours on the micro-blogging site, Karan Johar tweeted: “AYAN MUKERJI’s next for Dharma productions is slated to begin mid next year and release December 23rd, 2016. RANBIR KAPOOR and ALIA BHATT.’

After wowing the audiences with her performances in ‘Highway’, ‘2 States’ and this month’s release ‘Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania’, Alia Bhatt is currently riding high on the success of four back-to-back hits. She had recently expressed her wish to date and marry the 31-year-old Bollywood heartthrob on the sets of the celebrity talk show ‘Koffee With Karan’.

After having teamed up on ‘Wake Up Sid’ and ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, this will be Ranbir and Ayan’s third film together as a hit actor-director duo. Close buddies in real life, their past two films have also been produced under the Dharma Productions-banner.
