The Indian television audiences will have a tough choice in the next few months when two of the biggest stars of Indian cinema lock horns on the battleground of the idiot box.
With perfectionist Aamir Khan gearing up for his much anticipated television debut with Satyameva Jayate and megastar Amitabh Bachchan all set for the sixth season of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC), the stakes are high.
Satyameva Jayate will go on air next month. If one can gauge from the official theme song of the show, it seems to make a close connect with the people of India. Reports claim that Satyameva Jayate is the Indian answer to the immensely popular Oprah Winfrey show of the US.
However, the theme song gives a far different view. It appears that Aamir is on a discovery of India. The assortment of images shows Indian people from places like a Himalayan Buddhist monastery to the backwaters of Kerala. Aamir is shown having fun with the local people at different places while travelling throughout India.
On the other hand, ever since it began in 2000, KBC has remained as the most successful show on television. The success of the show left an impact so deep that it changed the idiot box for the better. An already famous Amitabh Bachchan became a favourite of the masses largely due to the connectivity he was able to make through the show.
People from the remotest parts of the country came to the show - on many occasions as paupers - and went back as kings or queens.
There is no confirmation as to when KBC 6 will go on air but if it begins at anytime during the running of Aamir's show, it may turn out to be the most competitive period in the history of Indian telly.
Since the two actors have never 'clashed' before, it will be interesting to see who gains the upper hand. Although Aamir's show will be telecast on Star TV and KBC on Sony, in case they cross each other's path or pitched around the same time-frame, it could be the biggest race for TRPs.
Aamir has been able to keep the surprise element of his show intact whereas there are no prizes for guessing the concept of KBC.
Will it be the ever-so-perfect Aamir Khan or will it be the legendary Amitabh Bachchan? It will be revealed once the shows hit the screens.
