Nirupa Roy, the late actress who became the symbol of the caring and emotional Indian mother in Hindi films of the 70s, is the new topic of conversation on Twitter, with users cracking jokes on the stereotypical roles she played.
Her name was trending on Thursday, along with actor Neil Nitin Mukesh, whose three-word name was the butt of jokes on Wednesday. Earlier, it was actors Alok Nath, Danny and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal.
However, unlike earlier cases, some Twitter users were also miffed at the jokes.
Roy, a Gujarati who started out as a heroine in 50s, attained fame for her role as a widow in Deewar and was immortalised in the dialogue between the characters played by Amitabh Bachchan and Shashi Kapoor, where Kapoor's character says: "Mere pass maa hai."
