It’s party time for Madhavan as the actor plans to throw a bash to celebrate TWMR’S success as well as his birthday. Read on!

R Madhavan has been missing from the scene since a while now but the actor certainly has come back with a bang. The film has crossed the 100 crore mark worldwide and has earned big time at the box office in India. Madhavan has every reason to celebrate and he’s planning to do exactly that. The occasion will be doubly special as reports suggest that the actor,  will also celebrate his birthday!

Movie Review : 'Welcome To Karachi'

'Welcome To Karachi'

Director: Ashish R. Mohan

Cast: Arshad Warsi, Jackky Bhagnani, Lauren Gottlieb

Rating: *

'Welcome to Karachi' is an attempt at a political satire with the backdrop of the 'explosive' (literally) situation in Pakistan.

Shammi (Arshad Warsi) and Kedar Patel (Jackky Bhagnani) , the Indian version of dumb and dumber, decide to sneak into USA on a boat because Kedar wants to go and his visa gets rejected repeatedly. A freak accident lands them in the heart of Karachi, Pakistan instead.

What follows is a half funny, half not so funny adventure of the two bumbling idiots, who are by now desperate to get back to this side of the border. What stands out in this film is the fairly intelligent writing, which includes a few uproariously funny dialogues, and which belies the writer's (Vrijesh Hirjee) fair understanding of the current political scenario.

The first half keeps you entertained as the situations and dialogues keep you consistently guffawing, even as you get anxious for the safety of the two simpletons who have managed to land themselves among a Taliban group. Some situations are uproariously funny, as the writer bravely takes subtle digs at a particular airline (name conveniently beeped out) and a few other taboo topics which are otherwise spoken in hushed whispers.

What doesn't work is the annoying background music, tacky visual effects and inconsistent direction (Ashish R Mohan). While Mohan's attempt to recreate Karachi and the irreverent way its situation is portrayed is worthy of appreciation, his story telling loses all steam in the second half.

After interval the story gets dragged, leading to an unnecessarily stretched climax.

We all know Arshad Warsi is a competent actor and his talent shows in a particularly hilarious scene which includes a Indo-Pak cricket match. Jackky Bhagnani, as a money minded but daft Gujarati boy is good. Lauren Gotleib proves that she is a far better dancer than actor, as she sizzles in a dance number. Pakistani actors, Ayub Khoso and Adnan Shah, add dollops of delight to the narration.

Worth one watch.

Ajaz Khan celebrates birthday with unprivileged girls

Popular TV actor Ajaz Khan, who resurrected his career with the superhit Bigg Boss 7, turns another year older today. And he celebrated the occasion with underprivileged girls in Mumbai. He cut his birthday cake, entertained them with his trademark ‘bhai’ lingo including ‘1 number’ and superstar Salman Khan’s mimicry. He even made them pose for the photographs and made them sing songs and dance.

Regarding his decision to celebrate his birthday with young girls, he said, “I was really upset at the start of the day but now I’m feeling extremely happy now. My son is not with me and is in Holland and I was badly missing him.”

Instead of throwing lavish parties, he has brought about smiles on the faces of these girls. He said, “I do something like this every year. There is no point throwing grand parties and wasting lot of money. I want to do something for the society. Bringing a smile onto these kid’s faces creates a superb feeling in my heart.”

Ajaz will soon be seen as an RJ on Fever 104 FM where he will be solving the problems of people. He is also busy with several films including Love Day, Mumbai Saga and I Love Dubai.

Jagga Jasoos or Tamasha: Which Ranbir Kapoor film are you looking forward to?

The actor’s upcoming films has him paired with his present girlfriend Katrina Kaif and ex Deepika Padukone.

Ranbir Kapoor might have disappointed everyone once again with his latest offering Bombay Velvet after a stale Roy and disparaging Besharam. But there is no reason for distress as far as he is concerned. He has two films coming up which could turn the tides for him. Interestingly and funnily so, both the films have a part of his personal life involved. While Jagga Jasoos pairs him with his would-be bride Katrina Kaif, Tamasha has him paired with Deepika Padukone, his ex! There aren’t too many reasons for the films to not take off well, but we would like to know from you as to which film excites you more. It’s time to vote for Ranbir’s films with present and past.

Now Jagga Jasoos is a detective film with a comical twist. Ranbir plays a detective with Katrina as his partner. Ranbir’s look from the film was released many moons ago which sees him with specs on carrying a backpack. He seemed much healthier than he looks now. The poster that was released was also quirky giving an idea of what to expect. Ranbir and Katrina’s chemistry has worked at the box office with Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani and Raajneeti. So Jagga Jasoos might benefit from all that.

As for Tamasha, Deepika and Ranbir’s pairing has always spun magic. Bachna Ae Haseeno and Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani were films that made the audience happy. A few of the on the set pictures of Tamasha has gone on to prove that both are looking smashing in the film. Ranbir plays a drifter while Deepika is in love with the comic characters of Asterix and Obelix. The latter bring them together and sparks fly. Well, that always does when these two get together. It sounds even more interesting than Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani.

Huma Qureshi: I like experimenting and creating different looks

Huma Qureshi finds denims boring. She feels that being a girl, she has so many things she can adorn and tries to make the most of it. She has an interesting collection of dresses, printed pants, skirts, Indian wear and she keeps adding to the collection. The talented actor likes experimenting with her dressing.

She is always up for trying things and putting together an ensemble look. Even in her films she is always gung-ho about trying new looks. The stylists she works with are always appreciative on how she is always up for experimenting and trials. Huma infact keeps tabs on international trends and shops online or whenever she is travelling.

Denims for the young actress is a no brainer. Even though she likes denims for casual affairs, she consciously tries to keep them at bay. Says Huma “I find dressing in denims absolutely boring! They are comfortable but are like a shortcut to dressing. I like experimenting with my clothes and creating different looks.”

She further shares “Even though jeans are pretty much a must have in ones wardrobe I try and do without it. I keep looking out for fashion trends so I can find alternatives to them. I have been doing this for a while now”

Jurassic World trailer out, features Irrfan Khan

The trailer for the upcoming Hollywood adventure film ‘Jurassic World ‘is out and it features Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan who plays the role of Simon Masrani.

The 38-second-video shows Irrfan and actress Bryce Dallas Howard watching a dinosaur lurking in a man-made forest. They are discussing about the creature as the actress says whether it would scare kids and Irrfan mentions that it looked fantastic.

‘Jurassic World,’ which releases on June 12, is the fourth installment of the series after ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Jurassic Park: The Lost World’ and ‘Jurassic Park III’.

Steven Spielberg, the director of the first two films of the Jurassic Park franchise, acted as the executive producer of the fourth film as he did in the third version. ‘Jurassic Park’ starred actors Sam Neill, Laura Dern and Jeff Goldblum.

Irrfan’s latest Bollywood release ‘Piku’ was very successful and is being highly appreciated. He had earlier worked for English films like, ‘Life of Pi’, ‘Namesake’ the Oscar winning ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, ‘The Amazing Spiderman’ and others.

The new movie takes place 20 years after the original movie. Taking its cue from the original concept, the film will feature a dinosaur theme park owned by the Masrani Global Corporation. But this time a new attraction is added that will backfire and cause damage and destruction.

Meanwhile, Jurassic World lead actor Christ Pratt apologized in advance over Facebook for saying “anything dumb” in his interviews.

"I want to make a heartfelt apology for whatever it is I end up accidentally saying during the forthcoming ?#?JurassicWorld press tour," the actor posted.

"I am not in the business of making excuses. I am just dumb. Plain and simple. I try. I REALLY try! When I do (potentially) commit the offensive act for which I am now (pre) apologizing you must understand I (will likely have been) tired and exhausted when I (potentially) said that thing I (will have had) said that (will have had) crossed the line," Christ added.

Christ is known to have a great sense of humor and has made a niche for himself in comedy genre, before he was roped in to play Peter Quill in Marvel blockbuster ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’.

I don’t need roka ceremony : says Ranbir Kapoor

Ranbir-Katrina’s marriage plans have become the talk of the town. Erm! Correction! They have always been talk of the town. And now their blown-out-of-proportion marriage rumors are still going pretty strong.

Almost close to a national concern, Ran-Kat’s marriage plans are being discussed elaborately. Now coming directly from the source, Ranbir rubbishes the rumors and sets the record straight.

He said in an Interview to DNA, “There’s no truth to it. Once we decide to get married, everyone will come to know. It will be one of my biggest decisions ever, so we will announce it in a big manner. Right now, I am happy and secure with my life. There is love in my life and when we decide to take it to the next level, sabko pata chal jayega.”

It was May-end roka rumors for the two and to that RK explains, why they can never have a Roka.

He added, “Let me clear the air. Rokas happen during arranged marriages where the two families come together and fix the match. Then the girl is not allowed to meet other prospective grooms.

That’s the idea. You guys know my situation. It’s not an arranged marriage. Why would I even need a roka?”

So now we know why Ranbir and Katrina can never have a Roka. RK also pointed out his situation with Katrina to the world. Finally, the truth!

Sakshi Dhoni’s ‘Mahi’ tattoo for husband MS Dhoni

Sakshi Dhoni, wife of Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has joined the league of actor Saif Ali Khan and footballer David Beckham by tattooing the name of her husband in Devnagri script.

While David has his wife Victoria’s name tattooed across his right arm, Saif has Kareena’s name inked on his arm.

Cricketers Lasith Malinga and Kevin Pietersen of Sri Lanka and South Africa respectively, have their spouses’ name tattooed on their body, but it is wonderful to see a cricketer’s wife expressing her love by inking her husband’s name.

Sakshi, who was at the Eden Gardens for the IPL finals cheering for her husband’s team Chennai Super Kings, revealed the tattoo behind her ears.

She seemed to be shying away from shutterbugs covering her face and in the process revealed the tattoo below her left ear on the nape. The tattoo etched in Devnagri, reads ‘Mahi’, Dhoni’s popular nickname. The two syllable-print looked very neat and the fact that it is her husband’s name makes it special.

Sakshi was seen regularly during this year’s IPL matches with the coupl’s daughter Ziva, born earlier this year. During the final match on Sunday night between Dhoni’s CSK and Mumbai Indians, both Sakshi and Ziva were present at the stadium. However, CSK eventually lost the tourney.

Indian cricketers Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan too have tattoos designed on them.

Gayle has invited me to his wedding: Sarfaraz Khan

Thanks to the IPL, we're in an age where a young cricketer can realize a few of his dreams faster than ever before. A couple of years back, Sarfaraz Khan, at 17 the IPL's youngest cricketer this season, would look at the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore and talk to himself.

"After training at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) there, I would look around the stadium and jokingly telling myself: 'One day, people would be screaming 'Sarfaraz, Sarfaraz' here. I thought: 'How can this happen to me? However, two years down the line, when I was batting for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL, people were actually screaming 'Sarfaraz, Sarfaraz'. I felt good. Dreams do come true," Sarfaraz, fresh from a successful maiden IPL season told TOI on Sunday.

Soaking in all the attention after returning to his city for the first time since he became a star following his exploits for the RCB, the young turk said: "Till now, it hasn't sunk in that I've played cricket at such a high level. It's like I had a dream last night and things are back to normal in the morning. In fact, when I used to wear my pads after fielding, and look around, it wouldn't sink in that I was playing in the IPL!"

During his time away from the family for the past couple of months, Sarfaraz had just one worry: "I missed my dad (Naushad, who is also his coach), but I was tense that if I didn't perform well, then he would scold me," he admitted with a smile.

It was a stint which not only got him the attention of the cricketing world thanks to his unbeaten cameos of 45 not out and 31, but also earned him a 'best friend' in West Indian superstar Chris Gayle. "He has even invited me to his wedding (in Jamaica) next month, but I don't think I'll be able to go," he added. Besides Gayle, there were solid words of encouragement from AB de Villiers too. "I told AB, 'I want to become a big player.' He told me: "I wasn't half as good as you are at this age.' He told me to keep batting the way I do. Don't take much tension. You have very good skill, you'll rise in life."

While Gayle and Darren Sammy were all about fun, De Villiers gave Sarfaraz the real lesson. "I've learnt a lot about Test cricket from him. He told me that Test is good too, if you play it well. I told him I want to do well in Tests. He said, 'You should look to stay at the wicket in the first session. Focus on leaving the ball. In the second session, look to play the ball on the merit. In the third session, one can play freely, because the bowlers are tired'" shared the teenager.

Deepika Padukone and her inspiration for Piku

Actor Deepika Padukone has garnered much praise for her portrayal of the girl-next door, struggling to find work-family balance, in the recent hit, Piku. The 29-year-old actor says her inspiration for the role was every woman of today.

"My inspiration for the role in Piku was every woman today, especially those from Delhi, because the story is based on a Delhi family," says Dippy.

She emphasises that every contemporary woman is trying to strike a balance between her professional and family life, just like Piku. "At first, it’s Piku’s world and her life… you follow her journey, and see how she tries to multi-task and find a balance.

Then you realize that this is what every woman is trying to do. Most of the women go to work and have a home to manage. All our mothers, daughters and wives are juggling between all of this, and are also trying to find time for themselves… striving to be perfect in everything they do. So Piku for me is a story of all our lives," she says.

Poltergeist review: This is a solid remake of haunted house classic

Poltergeist

Director: Gil Kenan

Cast: Sam Rockwell, Rosemarie DeWitt

It's infrequent and particularly satisfying when the remake of an especially memorable film equals or exceeds the experience of the original. In 1982, Poltergeist saw the brilliant pairing of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre's low-budget horror director Tobe Hooper with far more mainstream screenwriter and producer Steven Spielberg for an effects-laden event movie that earned its place as a contemporary benchmark among supernatural thrillers.

Leaving behind the youth-skewing perspectives of Monster House and City of Ember, director Gil Kenan not only delivers on the promise of Hooper's Poltergeist, but significantly raises the stakes for similar PG-13 fare.

In setting the scene, Kenan and the filmmakers take their cue from the first film in the trilogy, as Eric (Sam Rockwell) and Amy (Rosemarie DeWitt) Bowen, crippled by the financial impacts of the Great Recession, look to downsize so that they can continue adequately providing for their three kids. They find what they're looking for in a distressed but affordable home for sale that's located in a nondescript development full of vacant properties on the outskirts of an Illinois town where Amy attended university. Youngest daughter Maddy (Kennedi Clements) is excited to move in following the initial tour after conversing with some new invisible friends who speak to her from a mysterious bedroom closet. Anxiety-prone middle child Griffin (Kyle Catlett) isn't thrilled to be settling into an attic bedroom, however, where an ominous willow tree looms over the house through a rooftop skylight. Teenage Kendra (Saxon Sharbino) displays visible disaffection with her new situation, preferring to remain in touch with her old life and friends via phone, text and video chat.

Poltergeist scares with the clown.

On the first night in their new home while everyone else is asleep, Griffin discovers Maddy talking to the big-screen living room TV as it flashes and emits strange noises. "They're here," she says, referring to her friends, "the lost people." Now Griffin has some solid reasons to feel worried, especially after noticing objects moving around the house of their own accord and discovering a box full of scary clown dolls stashed in a storage space. His parents just attribute these trepidations to his chronic anxiety and it isn't until the next night when they're out to dinner at a neighbor's house that they discover some disturbing information regarding their new home that sends them rushing back to check on the kids.

By the time they arrive, Griffin and Kendra have suffered supernatural attacks and Maddy has vanished completely. At their wit's end, Amy and Eric decide to seek guidance from Dr. Claire Powell (Jane Adams) from the Department of Paranormal Research at Amy's former university. Powell agrees to assist, bringing in her staff to wire the Bowen's home with video cameras and monitoring equipment in their search for the missing child.

Watch Poltergeist trailer:

As the film reaches its midpoint, all of the essential elements of the original are in place and in part this satisfying continuity is attributable to a screen story again written by Spielberg. In scripting the remake, David Lindsay-Abaire hews closely to the earlier template, replicating some key scenes with more contemporary flair while ratcheting up the pacing by cutting 20 minutes off the running time.

Although Rockwell appears capable of holding the Bowens together in the face of financial and personal peril, it's a rather under-written part that lacks the frequent character tics he's exploited more memorably in smaller-scale films. DeWitt is the predictably supportive emotional core of the family, eventually driven to extremes by her daughter's predicament.

Kenan's overall improvements to the movie's visual style aren't only attributable to advances in technology and a 3D update. While Hooper favored shock value and jump scares, Kenan and cinematographer Javier Aguirresarobe construct far more fluid sequences as the camera glides and hovers over its subjects, reserving the most impactful shots for the climactic scenes, particularly a concluding sequence that's particularly thrilling.

Poltergeist, a 20th Century Fox release, is rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Association of America for "intense frightening sequences, brief suggestive material, and some language."

Shahid Kapoor's half-brother Ishaan Khattar joins Bollywood

After Shahid Kapoor’s half-sister Sanah Kapoor signed up to make her acting debut (in Vikas Bahl’s next), another of his siblings is set for a stint in Bollywood. His half-brother Ishaan Khattar, an aspiring director, is assisting Abhishek Chaubey on his next, which interestingly stars Shahid.

An insider reveals, “Ishaan is working as an assistant on Abhishek’s next, which also stars Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan. This has been one of the best-kept secrets of the film. Being an assistant is part of the training process for any aspirant who wants to make it big in the film world, and Ishaan is no different.”

It seems that despite having a star brother, Ishaan didn’t ask for help to bag the project. “He did ask Shahid for his permission to meet Abhishek, but Shahid wasn’t involved in getting him the project. Ishaan spoke to Abhishek, who was impressed with his passion and confidence, and took him on board,” says the insider, adding, “It’s a proud moment for Shahid. He’s very close to Ishaan, and he thinks working with him will be fun.”

Salman Khan to sing a special single composed by Himesh Reshammiya!

Big news for Salman fans! The actor who has crooned in the past for Kick will be singing for Hero and also a special single which is being made by Himesh Reshammiya!

Salman Khan sung for most of the tracks in Kick and even in his upcoming production, Nikhil Advani’s Hero, he has lent his voice to two tracks for the film. And now he’s doing a special track with his composer friend Himesh Reshammiya.

Himesh has heard the final versions of these tracks. At the outset, he clarifies, “I am not composing for Hero,” adding, “But the songs that he’s doing are brilliant. He is outstanding in it. Listen to that song and you will know what I’m talking about.”

He offers his take on Salman the singer. “His pick-up sense is great. He doesn’t take hours to rehearse. As a composer, you just let him know the notes and then just the rehearsal. That’s it,” Himesh says.

Of their special track together, he says they’re not sure yet when and where they’ll release it. “We have worked on a track that he has sung very well. I am doing this track that will be a single. Actually, Salman bhai makes a bank of his own songs and he likes doing that. He will be the one who will decide where it has to go. It could go in one of his films or even release individually.”

He concludes, “I take advice about everything from him. He is a mentor, brother, friend and I owe my success to him. He has been there for me from the first film so for me, he is my Godfather.”

Shraddha Kapoor paired with Tiger Shroff in Baaghi!

The film is being helmed by Heropanti director Sabbir Khan and Sajid Nadiadwala

After producing back-to-back hits and directing one of the biggest hits last year, Sajid Nadiadwala is all set for his next film to go on floors. The project – Baaghi — will have the Heropanti actor-director team — Tiger Shroff and Sabbir Khan— coming together once again. There was a lot of speculation about who will play the female lead opposite Tiger.

In the running

While many girls in the industry were eyeing the role, it’s Shraddha Kapoor who has bagged the part. It was rumoured that newbie Divya Patani had been cast opposite Tiger. The girl was to debut with Karan Johar’s production No Sex Please, which never took off. She was then chosen for Ekta Kapoor’s project Vanity Fair. But that, too, was shelved. And then, she lost Baaghi as well.

Star launcher

In the recent past, Sajid has been investing a lot in young talent. He gave Tiger and Kriti Sanon a mega launchpad with Heropanti which went on to become a huge success. It’s not surprising then that youger actors are vying to work with him. Before Heropanti, Sabbir had directed Kambakkht Ishq starring Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor. This will be his third project with Sajid. And like Heropanti, they have yet again opted for a fresh pair. It will be very interesting to see Tiger and Shraddha in the film.

Luck factor

Shraddha’s had a streak of hits at the box-office with Vishesh Films’ Aashiqui 2, Balaji’s Ek Villain and Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider. There are great expectations from her next, UTV’s ABCD 2 as well. Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and UTV’s Baaghi, which will be an intense love story is due to release April 15, 2016 and will will be set in a metropolis, is expected to be high on action. Sabbir has clarified that it it will be an original script and not a remake of the Salman Khan-Nagma film, as earlier speculated. He had also said that he would be looking for a new face for Baaghi.

Signing this movie is a great move for Shraddha. It gives her the opportunity to form a jodi with a new actor and also lets her work with a hit-making team.

Shahid Kapoor’s engagement gift to Mira Rajput: A solitaire worth Rs. 23 lakh

Shahid Kapoor loosened his purse strings for a Rs. 23 lakh solitaire as the engagement gift to his fiancée Mira Rajput recently, reports say.

Shahid Kapoor and Mira Rajput are set to tie the knot in June this year, but before the wedding the couple had a low-key ‘roka’ ceremony in which Shahid reportedly gave his wife-to-be a solitaire worth Rs. 23 lakh.

Reports say the ‘roka’ ceremony was held on May 16 at Mira’s residence in Chattarpur Farms, Delhi. Shahid Kapoor picked up the diamond from a jeweler in Delhi.

“It was custom-made and was ordered from a jeweler in Delhi itself. Shahid had kept Mira’s taste in mind and had personally picked the design and had ordered it much in advance. It costs a whopping Rs 23 lakh,” a source is quoted as saying in a media report.

Shahid Kapoor has confirmed that he will tie the knot with Mira Rajput this year, though he hasn’t revealed the date.

Buzz is that the duo will get married in June in Greece. It will be a destination wedding to be attended by the family members, close relatives and few friends of both the bride and groom.

The preparations for the wedding are already said to be underway.

Movie Review: ‘Tanu Weds Manu Returns’

Cast:Kangana Ranaut, R Madhavan, Deepak Dobriyal, Swara Bhaskar

Director:Aanand L Rai

Rating: ****

Movie sequels are all too often horribly musty affairs. Tanu Weds Manu Returns isn't one.

Notwithstanding the stray false notes that the film strikes, especially in the run-up to the climax, it is a bright and breezy romp that draws sustenance from its droll dialogues, outstanding cast of actors and all-round jollity.

The film hits the ground running, cruises along like a song until its final moments, where it comes close to losing its way just a tad.

But one leaves the auditorium with a smile on the face, having witnessed the misadventures of an array of flawed but loveably high-spirited characters who thrive on confusion.

Yes, it's frothy, but this is fluff that is rooted in recognisable and relatable settings.

In Himanshu Sharma's busy screenplay, little nuances of culture and language - which obviously vary wildly from the bylanes of Kanpur to the precincts of Delhi University to the rustic ambience of Haryana - are underscored with love, care and precision.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns revolves around an unintentionally dangerous London- meets-Jhajjar liaison.

So ominous threats are made by some quarters, but nobody whips out a gun or goes for the kill or hurls ugly invectives.

This is infinitely more velvety than the much-hyped mess that we were subjected to last week.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns, which takes off exactly from where its 2011 predecessor left, exudes an air of welcome freshness. For the most part, the film eschews excess.

The stage for the comic rigmarole is set by a preliminary sequence staged in an ante-room of a British mental asylum where Tanu and Manu, now wedded for four desultory years, have a go at each other like a pair of Kilkenny cats.

Their marriage is on the rocks and the love that brought them together against all odds has evaporated.

Launching a broadside at Manu, Tanu accuses him of being devoid of any spark. I am not a lighter, he retorts.

Manu, on his part, complains to the psychiatric counsellor that Tanu suffers from bipolar disorder and has hormonal issues. She is too moody and demanding, he asserts.

The unseemly fracas ends in an insane-with-rage Manu being dragged away by the asylum attendants and placed under observation.

Tanu calls Pappi (Deepak Dobriyal) to head to London and rescue his friend while she flies back to Kanpur.

Kangana Ranaut, in a magnificently effective double role, powers the comic drama forward with an effortless act that requires her to embody two diametrically divergent faces of Eve in small-town India.

Tanu Weds Manu Returns vindicates the general belief that Kangana is currently in a zone where she can do no wrong.

On one hand she is the bubbly and recklessly rebellious Kanpur girl Tanuja Trivedi alias Tanu who walks out on her "boring" London doctor-hubby Manu Sharma (R Madhavan) on a whim and returns to her hometown.

On the other she embodies the no-nonsense persona of Kusum Sangwan alias Datto, the feisty sports quota Delhi University student from Jhajjar who is a carbon copy of Tanu but for her buck teeth, pixie bob and unalloyed Haryanvi diction.

The actress fleshes out this pair of distinct individuals with such energy and finesse that it becomes difficult at times to tell that it is the same actress playing the two roles. In one word, astounding.

Caught in this Seeta Aur Geeta scenario, the good doctor from Blighty falls for Kusum on the rebound, but he runs into pretty much the same obstacles that he had encountered the first time around.

It isn't just strongman Raja Awasthi (Jimmy Shergill) who is standing in his way once again. He now also has a flummoxed and fuming estranged wife to contend with.

Director Aanand L Rai and his writer Sharma have added two additional characters to the mix.

One is street-smart neophyte lawyer Anand Kumar Singh (Mohd Zeeshan Ayub), who develops a crush on his first client Tanu and, in the bargain, runs afoul of a livid Raja.

The other is Kusum's brother Om Prakash Sangwan (Rajesh Sharma), who has broken away from his conservative family because he doesn't get along with them.

It is he who intervenes in the nick of time to save Manu and his madcap pal Pappi (Deepak Dobriyal) from becoming unsuspecting victims of an act of honour killing.

Kangana overshadows all else. But that is not to say that Madhavan is put in the shade. He knows exactly how to underplay his part so as not to get in the way of the film's intended emphasis.

Swara Bhaskar, reprising the role of Tanu's friend who is now the mother of an IVF baby, does not have much footage to play around with. One wishes she did, for here is an actress who has the chops to deliver more.

Deepak Dobriyal is a fine actor, too, and he has the funniest lines in this film. But there are occasions here when the temptation to overact gets the better of him.

These little quibbles apart, Tanu Weds Manu Returns is as entertaining and engaging a film as any that Bollywood has delivered this year. Do not miss it.
